What is medical weight loss with injections
Obesity is a growing problem: nearly half of the Dutch population is affected. Losing weight and maintaining it is often challenging. The Body Clinic offers medical weight loss programs where, under medical supervision, medication can be prescribed to reduce hunger sensations. The program combines medical supervision with nutritional coaching and lifestyle advice.
The program process
Here are the steps of medical weight loss in a nutshell.
1. Intake and medical consultation
You begin with an intake consultation, where the program is explained and the medical consultation is scheduled. During the consultation (in the clinic or online), the doctor assesses whether treatment is medically appropriate and suitable.
2. Program commencement
When the doctor deems the treatment suitable, a prescription is sent to the pharmacy. The medication is safely delivered, and you begin under the guidance of the doctor and a nutritional coach who helps you develop healthy lifestyle habits.
3. Guidance and follow-up
During the program, you remain under medical supervision and have regular contact with your coach. Together, you discuss eating patterns, exercise, and lifestyle. Progress is evaluated, and if necessary, the program or dosage is adjusted in consultation with the doctor.

Starter program
From €199 per month
Do you want to start medical weight loss responsibly? This monthly program introduces you to the treatment in a safe way. Under the supervision of a doctor and with personal coaching, together we lay the foundation for lasting results. You always start with an intake interview with an assistant from The Body Clinic.
- 1 month of GLP-1 medication

Continuing program
From €199 per month
After a successful start, it’s time to move on. With the Follow-Up Program, you choose packages from 1 to 6, tailored to your needs. Guided by a physician and with optional coaching and additional tools, you will stay motivated and focused on your way to a healthy weight.

Coach only program
Do you want to lose weight responsibly or maintain your current weight without the use of medication? This program offers intensive coaching and support in adapting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Under the supervision of a physician and with weekly sessions with your coach, you’ll work toward lasting results. Includes access to the Vytal nutrition app with customized recipes.
When are you eligible
| BMI ≥ 30 Do you have a BMI of 30 or higher? Then you are eligible for the medical weight loss program. |
| BMI 27-30 Do you have a BMI between 27 and 30? Then you may be eligible for the medical weight loss program. This depends on your historical BMI, any weight-related conditions, your waist circumference, and your ethnic background. This will be discussed during your first consultation. |
| BMI < 27 Do you have a BMI lower than 27? In some cases, you may still be eligible for the medical weight loss program. This depends on factors including your historical BMI and ethnic background. Our doctor will assess during the first consultation whether weight-reducing medication is appropriate and responsible. |

Your medication securely delivered to your home through AMP
The medication prescribed within this program is dispensed by an affiliated pharmacy and delivered to your home via AMP, a specialized medical delivery service. AMP delivers refrigerated, traceable packages by appointment – during the day, evening, or on Saturdays – ensuring quality and temperature maintenance.
Under supervision of doctor and coach
The program is supervised by a BIG-registered doctor. The nutritional coach guides you through lifestyle changes and healthy eating patterns. For medical questions or side effects, the doctor is always available for contact.
Consultation at the clinic or online
The medical consultation can take place at one of our clinics or entirely online. During the consultation, the doctor discusses possible treatment options with you and assesses whether medication is medically responsible.
Medication safety
The medication that can be prescribed within this program is registered with the Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG) and is only available by prescription. Always read the package insert or the official SmPC (Summary of Product Characteristics) for information about effects, contraindications, and possible side effects.
Meet the coach
During the program, you are supervised by a medical weight loss coach. The coach helps you adjust your lifestyle and develop healthy eating habits. In consultation with the doctor, the coach discusses topics such as nutrition, exercise, and motivation, tailored to your personal situation. The aim of the guidance is to support you in developing sustainable habits, so you can maintain your weight and health after completing the program.

What drugs are used?

Can I administer the injections myself?
Yes, you can administer the injections yourself. During your first session with your Coach Medical Weight Loss, your coach will show you how to administer the injection into your thigh, abdomen or upper arm. Then you will independently administer the injections with the pen. Our YouTube channel also has videos with lancing instructions.
What result can I expect?
Most people experience weight loss within the first week. The lower limit is a weight loss of 5% of starting weight after 12 weeks. Otherwise, the treatment will be stopped by mutual agreement.
When can I stop injections?
It is not advised to use the medication for a short period of time. This increases the chances of regaining weight after stopping. Studies show that people can lose weight for 1 to 2 years with the medication. It may also take some time for a new lifestyle to become a new habit. The chances of losing weight permanently are increased by sustained lifestyle changes. That is why The Body Clinic offers this as a total package. If, despite all efforts, you do not manage to maintain your weight without medication, you can continue to follow a program with a maintenance dose for 6 or 12 months.
If you have not lost at least 5% of your starting weight after 12 weeks, this may indicate that the medication is not the solution for you and other medication may be more appropriate. We therefore recommend that you book a consultation with your attending physician.

Can I also get the medication alone without the guidance of the doctor and dietician?
The drugs are available only by prescription, so you cannot order this without a doctor’s intervention. At The Body Clinic, you always start with the Starter Program, which includes two coaching sessions. After that, you are given the option to choose an Independent program. In this program, you will not receive coaching but will remain under the medical supervision of a physician.
Can I also get the medication to lose weight through my doctor?
GPs can also prescribe waste medication; a pharmacy should always supply and stock the medication. However, some GPs do not feel that they have enough experience in supervising the route that comes with the medication. Therefore, The Body Clinic works closely with general practitioners and often patients of general practitioners who want to follow this pathway are referred to us. Our coaches provide the right and appropriate lifestyle guidance. Please inquire with your GP about the possibilities.
Are injections to lose weight reimbursed by health insurance companies?
The medication used in these treatments varies from person to person and situation to situation. There is a possibility that it may be reimbursed by a health insurance company, provided stricter conditions are met.
