Durable dermal filler, based on natural lactic acid
Sculptra is a durable dermal filler based on natural lactic acid. Lactic acid is a substance produced naturally by our own bodies. Sculptra stimulates the skin to produce collagen (support tissue), diminishing the depth of wrinkles. This is a slow process, the optimal result will not be visible for several months. Your Sculptra treatment will last two to four years. Depending on your age, lifestyle habits, the quality of your skin and your needs, between one and three treatments will be required.
Why Have a Sculptra Treatment?
Sculptra is particularly suitable to be used as dermal wrinkle filler in the following areas:
- To accentuate the cheekbones
- To fill up the temples
- To restore lost volume to cheeks
Other applications exist, your cosmetic physician can tell you more about them.
Before a Sculptra treatment, you need to fill out a health and treatment form. Then we will take some photographs for your medical file. The physician will mark the area of your face to be treated, and then administer some small pricks. The entire treatment takes between 20 and 30 minutes. Although the treatment is generally not considered painful, experiences differ individually. Since the Sculptra filler needs to be prepared in advance, we request partial payment ahead of time.

The results of a Sculptra treatment are immediately visible. After treatment you may notice a little redness or swelling, and in rare cases light bruising. An information sheet on how to care for the treated area and what to avoid in the days following will be given to you to take home. Please note: with Sculptra, you must massage the treated area every day for two weeks following treatment.
Before and after the treatment
We ask you to arrive 30 minutes before the Sculptra procedure so we can apply a numbing cream. As Sculptra needs to be prepared two days before the treatment, we require a down-payment of 200 euros, to be paid no later than five days prior to your appointment. You can finalise your payment electronically or in person at our clinic. To prevent bruising, we recommend that you stop using all blood-thinning medication such as Aspirin, Naproxen or Ibuprofen for five days before your Sculptra treatment. If necessary, consult your family doctor on this matter. Please do not take any alcoholic drinks 48 hours prior to your appointment. In addition, do not use any vitamins, fish oil or dietary supplements starting five days before your Sculptra treatment. Optionally, you can start taking Arnica drops five days before the procedure (maximum dosage).
We recommend that you do not expose yourself to direct sunlight during the first week after your Sculptra treatment. In addition, do not use saunas or tanning beds. For the first 2 weeks following procedure avoid all laser treatments, peels or other facial treatments. Make-up is not permitted on the treatment site for the first hours after a Sculptra treatment. During the first two weeks, you must massage the treated area as per our doctor’s instructions.
Light bruising and swelling may occur after a Sculptra treatment. The swelling usually subsides after two-three days. You are allowed to cosmetically camouflage any bruising a few hours after treatment.
On average, you will be able to enjoy your Sculptra treatment for two years.
The Body Clinic offers free, no obligation consultations prior to treatment with one of its physicians. During a consultation, we check to see if you qualify for treatment, chart your problem areas and give you tailor-made treatment advice.
Sculptra has long been commercially available and has proven its safety over long periods as well. Sculptra makes use of your own collagen production. Side effects are rare. Once every so often a small congestion will form, which will disappear by itself. You can reduce the chances of this happening by regularly massaging the treated area for a few weeks after treatment.

Are all Sculptra injection procedures at The Body Clinic carried out by physicians?
Yes, they are. Only physicians are qualified to carry out this procedure. Our physicians at The Body Clinic are a member of the NVCG and BIG registered.
Won’t fillers such as Sculptra result in unnatural looks?
The physicians at The Body Clinic always take the natural ageing process as a guide for cosmetic correction. We only add volume in places where volume has been lost. This guarantees a beautifully natural result. For our work method, please look under physicians or philosophy.
Will I get lumps from using Sculptra filler?
Sometimes small accumulations appear in the deeper skin layers. These are temporary; you cannot see them, but you can feel them with your fingers. These small lumps are avoided by thoroughly massaging the injected site for 20 days after treatment.
Can Sculptra be injected in the lips?
Sculptra is not suitable as an injectable for augmenting lips. Sculptra is most suitable for creating volume, which makes it unsuitable for the mouth. The physicians at The Body Clinic prefer to use hyaluronic acid (Juviderm 2) for lips. This guarantees a beautifully natural result.
How long do I have to wait before I see the effects of a Sculptra treatment?
Following the procedure, temporary swelling occurs, giving a volumizing result, which, however, only lasts for one day. After this, it will take approximately six months for optimal results to appear. However, it is possible to have a follow-up procedure two months later, because most of the collagen is produced in the first two months after procedure.
Can I go out in the sun after Sculptra?
Although the sun increases skin ageing, you can go into the sun as soon as redness and possible swelling have subsided. If there is any bruising, you’re advised to wait for it to disappear before going into the sun. We advise you to never go into the sun without proper protection against premature ageing due to sun damage.
Is a Sculptra injection procedure painful?
Sculptra injections are generally regarded as virtually painless, although individual variation in pain sensation is normal. These days Sculptra is mixed with Lidocaine, an anaesthetic. In addition, our physicians at The Body Clinic often use cold-packs to ease discomfort.
Are there any medical conditions or medications that prevent me from qualifying for a Sculptra procedure?
There are very few conditions or medications that make Sculptra procedures impossible. Before a Sculptra injection procedure, you’re required to fill in a certificate of health. This helps us determine if you qualify for a Sculptra injection procedure.
Should my skin be tested before a Sculptra procedure?
The Sculptra injectable consists of a bio-degradable substance identical to the body’s own. Sculptra does not contain any human or animal substances and there is practically no risk of any allergic reaction. So there’s no need for you to take an allergy test prior to the procedure.
