What does an upper eyelid correction entail?

A treatment for under-eye bags is a filler treatment where hyaluronic acid is used to replenish volume loss under the eyes. The filler is placed with a cannula (an ultra-thin needle) or a fine injection needle in the area under the eyes, also known as the tear trough. The treatment usually takes about 30 minutes, and the effect is almost immediately visible.

The treatment is performed by a doctor with extensive experience and training in eyelid corrections.

During an eyelid analysis, the doctor analyzes your eyelids and skin. In addition, the doctor reviews your medical history and determines whether a surgical eyelid correction is suitable for your situation. This way, you know exactly what to expect.

Preparation for the treatment

Before you are treated, the doctor will go through the treatment with you and answer any questions. The doctor will mark the part of the skin that needs to be removed. Around the eyes, you will receive a local anesthetic with an injection.

The treatment

Excess skin is skillfully removed. The incisions are precisely placed in the eyelid creases, making scars almost invisible over time. The skin is sutured, and the treatment takes approximately 30-45 minutes. The treatment itself is painless.

Recovery at the clinic

Immediately after the treatment, you can cool at our clinic. If desired, you can rest quietly before going home. The doctor will discuss what you can and cannot do in the coming days. You will receive plasters on the incision sites.

Follow-up appointment and sutures

After about 7 days, you will come for a check-up to have your sutures and plasters removed. Our doctors always strive for a natural and meticulous result. During this consultation, we will jointly assess the effect, ensuring you achieve the best final result.

Pre- and post-care

Before the treatment

Stop taking blood thinners (such as aspirin, ibuprofen), vitamins, fish oil, and supplements 5 days before the treatment (consult your doctor). Do not drink alcohol 48 hours before treatment. Optionally, you can use Arnica drops 5 days beforehand. Do not smoke and avoid passive smoking from 7 days before the operation.

After the treatment

For the first few days, your eyes will be swollen and bruised, but light activity is possible. Leave the plasters on for a week until the check-up. For 2 weeks, avoid strenuous physical activities such as: sports, lifting, and bending. Contact lenses can only be worn after 10-14 days. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyelids and take paracetamol for pain. Do not consume alcohol during recovery.

Recovery time

The sutures are removed after 7 days during the follow-up appointment. After 7-9 days, swelling and bruising will have disappeared for almost every client. The scar initially remains red and sometimes thickened, but becomes thinner and blends in. Protect scars from the sun for 6 months to prevent prolonged redness.

Result

After approximately 3 to 6 months, the full result of the upper eyelid correction will be visible. On average, an upper eyelid correction provides enjoyment for about 10 to 15 years. By taking good care of your skin and living healthily, you will get the most out of the upper eyelid correction.
