The Bsure DNA test predicts severe filler complications
Whether you will experience severe complications after a filler treatment can now be predicted. Scientific research shows that there is a component in your DNA that increases your chance of a severe rejection reaction after a filler treatment. This occurs on average in 2 out of 100 clients. The Body Clinic is the first cosmetic clinic in the Netherlands to offer the Bsure DNA test, which indicates whether you have an increased risk of severe complications after a filler treatment. A filler treatment is now even safer!
How does our body react to fillers?
To minimize the chance of complications after a filler treatment, the advice is always to seek out a skilled and experienced doctor who uses the best-tested products, but how your body reacts to the filler remains uncertain. Scientific research shows that there is a 1-2% chance of an immune reaction after a filler treatment, which can be detected in your DNA. If you have already undergone a filler treatment without problems in the past, the chance of complications in the future is very small, nevertheless, the test might still be interesting for you.
HLA combination in DNA is the culprit
Since 2015, permanent fillers have been banned in the Netherlands. These fillers brought many complications. Temporary hyaluronic acid fillers can also cause complications, but much less frequently than permanent fillers. Research shows that people with severe complications after a filler treatment often have an HLA combination in their DNA. HLA stands for ‘human leukocyte antigen’, which is a receptor on every cell in the body. When a filler is injected into the body, these receptors react and fight against it, which can lead to severe long-term complications. The HLA combination therefore ensures that your own immune system reacts extremely to fillers. If the DNA test gives a positive result, you have an 84% chance of a severe rejection reaction after a filler treatment. In such a case, it is advisable not to proceed with a filler treatment.
Common side effects versus severe complications of fillers
Complications after a filler treatment can always occur. However, it is necessary to distinguish common side effects from severe complications. Short-term common side effects of fillers often disappear on their own or are easily treatable. Long-term severe complications, caused by a specific HLA combination in your DNA, are often difficult to treat. These severe complications occur in 2 out of 100 people who have been treated with fillers. Short-term common side effects of fillers:
- Pain
- Bruising
- Swelling
- Redness
- Lumps
- Infection
Long-term severe complications of fillers:
- Persistent redness
- Hardening
- Edema
- Granulomas
- Sarcoidosis
- Scleroderma
- Panniculitis
- Hepatitis
- Pneumonitis
- Sjögren's Syndrome
Optimal safety
At The Body Clinic, we are always looking for optimal safety for our patients. We ensure that all our doctors are BIG registered, have years of experience, and we only use A-brand injectables where we prioritize quality over quantity. The Bsure DNA test is an important addition to the safety of a filler treatment at The Body Clinic. From September 2021, you can book a Bsure DNA test at The Body Clinic. The test is performed by a doctor and is based on a ‘swap’ of your saliva. It is also possible to pick up the DNA test from us and perform it yourself at home. After receiving the sample in the laboratory, you will receive the results within 10 to 14 days, which can be by phone, email, or in person. If you are interested in a filler treatment but are hesitant about possible complications, the Bsure DNA test can significantly reduce the chance of a severe rejection reaction. On our website, you will find more information about the Bsure DNA test or book an appointment directly via 020-4638668.
