What is microneedling

Microneedling is a treatment that can be used to address acne (scars), pigmentation spots and deteriorated skin condition. Microneedling uses the skin’s natural healing process to stimulate collagen production. Also, other skin products are absorbed more effectively. It makes the skin firmer, smoother and gives it a youthful appearance.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a treatment that can be used to address acne (scars), pigmentation spots and deteriorated skin condition. Microneedling uses the skin’s natural healing process to stimulate collagen production. Also, other skin products are absorbed more effectively. It makes the skin firmer, smoother and gives it a youthful appearance.

Why microneedling treatment?

Microneedling improves skin quality by stimulating the skin’s natural healing process. A microneedling pen has very tiny needles that make tiny holes in the skin. As the top layer of skin is “damaged,” the skin’s repair process begins. During this repair process, the natural production of collagen is stimulated. This causes the skin to improve from the inside out.

Collagen production is a process that continues to develop over a period of 8 to 12 weeks. Each microneedling treatment involves choosing an active ingredient in line with your needs. Because of the microscopic holes in the skin, a serum is absorbed into the skin much more effectively. Its effects are:

  • Improvement of skin quality
  • Reduce acne (scars)
  • Minimize coarse pores
  • Strengthen sagging skin
  • Reduce pigmentation spots

Agents and indications for microneedling

Microneedling allows products to penetrate deeper into the skin and work more effectively. A microneedling treatment is combined with a serum (active ingredient) appropriate to the skin condition being treated. This enhances the effect of these products and improves the skin from the inside out. Our skin therapist will discuss with you which active ingredient is appropriate for your skin and needs.

  • Hyaluronic Acid

Microneedling with hyaluronic acid focuses on skin rejuvenation and improving skin texture. It promotes skin hydration. With this, fine lines are reduced, and skin texture will become more even.

  • Vitamin C

Microneedling with vitamin C addresses pigmentation spots and dull skin. When vitamin C is added, it enhances the skin’s repair ability. Vitamin C has brightening properties and supports collagen synthesis for firm, radiant skin.

  • Retinol

Microneedling with retinol offers firming and improvement of skin texture. Retinol, a form of vitamin A, promotes cell renewal and increases collagen production. This gives a youthful appearance and firm and even skin.

Microneedling combined with chemical peeling

Combining microneedling with a peel is an effective treatment for skin rejuvenation. Both the deeper and outer layers of the skin are treated. Microneedling stimulates the production of collagen deep within the skin. This is effective for reducing fine lines and improving skin texture. Exfoliation, on the other hand, treats the surface of the skin. It removes dead skin cells and improves the overall tone of the skin.

The combination of these two treatments provides a profound, yet gentle approach. The result is smoother, tighter skin with a beautiful, even tone. A microneedling treatment at The Body Clinic includes a mild exfoliation. Optionally, you may also choose to combine a deeper peel with your microneedling treatment.

What to do before and after a microneedling treatment?

Before treatment

Before you undergo microneedling treatment at The Body Clinic, a consultation with our skin therapist always takes place first. It is strongly advised not to use tretinoin or retinol at least two days before microneedling treatment. Before treatment, avoid skin irritation and/or intentional skin tanning, including self-tanning. On the day of the treatment itself, it is important that you come to the clinic without makeup, cream, lotion or perfume on.

After treatment

After treatment, it is important to avoid humid areas, heat and exercise for one to five days. Also, do not use active ingredients such as retinol and glycolic acid until a few days after treatment. The skin should only be cared for with a mild cleanser, moisturizer and an SPF product with at least factor 30. Two days after the microneedling treatment, makeup may be applied to the treated area again.

Recovery time

After a microneedling treatment, some mild redness and swelling may be visible for one to three days. During this period, there is also a chance of flaking of the skin.

Duration result

The results of microneedling can be maintained by undergoing microneedling treatments with some regularity. If you undergo one microneedling treatment, the results will diminish after an average of 3 months. If you follow a course of treatment, it will only happen after an average of 6-8 months.

Free intake microneedling

The Body Clinic offers a free consultation with a skin therapist prior to microneedling treatment. It is important to us that you become a satisfied client. We have been the highest rated clinic in the Netherlands for years, and for good reason. Your expectations will be identified, possibilities and impossibilities discussed, and ultimately you will receive honest advice tailored to your situation.

Safety of microneedling

Microneedling is a safe, minimal procedure that promotes skin rejuvenation. The treatment activates the skin to produce more collagen. Most people experience only mild side effects such as redness and swelling. These side effects disappear within a few days. Serious complications, such as infections or allergic reactions, are extremely rare. During the consultation, the skin therapist will discuss your needs with you and give you realistic advice.

FAQ

What does microneedling do?

Microneedling is a form of skin therapy in which very small needles make tiny holes in the skin. By “damaging” the skin, the skin’s natural healing process is initiated. This promotes the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in tight, plump and youthful skin.

What is Dermapen?

The Dermapen is the best-known brand name of a microneedling pen. Because the Dermapen is often used as a synonym for microneedling, there can be confusion about this. At The Body Clinic, we do not use the Dermapen, but a different brand of microneedling pen with the same effect.

Is a microneedling treatment worth the money?

This depends on your personal skin needs and goals. Book a consultation with our skin therapist to find out if our microneedling treatment offers the desired results for you.

How often should I do a microneedling treatment for results?

It always depends on your wishes and goals of treatment. Optimal results are achieved within three to six treatments for most treatment plans. This is always discussed with you beforehand during the free consultation with our skin therapist.

Can I go out in the sun after a microneedling treatment?

No, after a microneedling treatment, the skin is extra sensitive to UV radiation. It is recommended to avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week after treatment. In addition, use a good sunscreen with high SPF to properly protect the skin.
