Wrinkles

Wrinkles can develop through excessive emoting or due to a decrease in volume. Wrinkles caused by emoting often appear near the top of the face, such as the forehead, frown or as crow’s feet. Areas where you might develop volume loss are usually the temples, cheekbones, cheeks, nasolabial fold or as Marionette lines. Depending on the cause of your wrinkles, we might alternately suggest a filler treatment or a Botulinum toxin procedure.

What causes wrinkle formation?

The leading cause of wrinkle formation is genetic. Often you will be able to predict where you develop wrinkles later in life by studying your parents’ faces. Next to genetics, sun damage and smoking are the most prominent causes of wrinkle development. A good skin care regimen will delay the development of facial wrinkles. Finally, a healthy lifestyle that includes plenty of sleep, a healthy diet and little stress will also contribute to a beautiful skin.

Which areas, with which product

What can be done about wrinkles?

In the field of aesthetic medicine, it is important to differentiate between wrinkles that are caused by facial emoting and those caused by a decrease in volume. In the case of the former, we will treat these wrinkles with Botulinum toxin, while in the latter case a (hyaluronic acid) filler will be used. Finally, the areas above and below your eyelids, upper lip wrinkles and wrinkles in the neck area can be treated with a PlexR procedure. In the case of all wrinkles, it is a good idea to improve the condition of your skin with – for example – Restylane Skinbooster.

Natural result

Our doctors at The Body Clinic always pay the utmost attention to a client’s natural facial features when smoothing out wrinkles. When restoring volume to a face, we only restore such volume as was lost over the years. Should our doctors recommend a Botox treatment, they will only treat areas where natural results may be achieved. At The Body Clinic we live by the motto ‘less is more.’ Gently building up a face whilst preserving natural expressions and contours is what we aim for.

Before and after

Free intake

We consider it of the utmost importance that you are well informed and have realistic expectations regarding our treatments. This is why we offer a free and non-binding intake appointment. Together with our doctor you will draft a tailored treatment plan. During this conversation, certain aspects will be discussed, such as your health, safety, alternative treatment options and the length and costs of your treatment. After the intake appointment, you will have the option to be treated straight away. Alternatively, you may schedule a new appointment for your treatment.

Safety

The BIG-registered doctors at The Body Clinic (members of the NVCG, the Dutch Association of Cosmetic Medicine) only use lip fillers from top-shelf brands such as Princess, Restylane and Teosyal. Safety is paramount when we select our wrinkle fillers and specific brand of Botulinum Toxin. All the brands we utilize have been commercially available for at least five years and have been used to carry out 5-40 million treatments. These large numbers guarantee that no inadvertent complications can arise.

FAQ

What kind of wrinkles can be treated with fillers?

We use fillers for many purposes; to smooth facial lines and wrinkles, reduce tiny lines around the mouth, diminish black circles and puffiness around the eyes, create fuller lips, restore facial contours, add volume to cheeks and cheekbones, etc.

What are injectables? What is the difference between fillers and Botulinum toxin?

Injectable is a generic term for all products injected into the skin with the use of a needle. Botulinum toxin (‘Botox’) works very differently from fillers. Botox relaxes the muscles, thereby relaxing the skin. Filler adds volume to the skin and can be used to treat wrinkles, lips, cheeks and cheekbones.

Are there any pre-treatment rules?

If you’d like to further reduce the small risk that you’ll bruise, we recommend that, if possible, you stop using medication that thins the blood such as Ibuprofen, Ascal and Naproxen several days before treatment. Please consult your doctor before you stop taking any medication.
Also, refrain from using fish oil and other supplements. You may want to take some (homeopathic) Arnica. Start five days before treatment with the highest dose recommended on the packet.

What kind of fillers does The Body Clinic use?

We mainly use non-permanent fillers based on hyaluronic acid such as Teosyal, Princess and Restylane. These fillers are fully biodegradable. Also, if necessary, we can actively dissolve them after application. We use a selection of brands instead of a single brand, so we can profit from each brand’s unique characteristics. Princess, for instance, is nice and firm and therefore great for contouring. Teosyal and Restylane on the other hand are perfect for under eyes or in lips. Products such as Radiesse and Sculptra are used on request only. For your treatment, we will select the brand that’s best for you, e.g. Restylane for fine sculpting or Princess for larger volumes. The Body Clinic will never use fillers that have not been scientifically proven safe and durable over time. Safety first. Always.

Once the Botulinum toxin has stopped working, won't I have more wrinkles than before?

On the contrary. Because the area treated with Botox has not been active for several months, the skin has had time to recover beautifully. What’s more, the wrinkles you had before treatment have not deepened in the meantime, because you weren’t able to use the muscles. You may even have partially lost the habit of using the muscles, so you’ll contract them less in the future. A frown is a good example of this. If you haven’t frowned for a while, you’ll frown less in the future.

Do the results of Botulinum toxin last?

The substance stops working after 3 – 6 months. But the treatment does have a permanently improving effect on the treated area, in particular if you have had Botulinum toxin treatment for several years. This is because the area will not have moved for that long a time. The lesions in the skin will not have deepened and the skin has had the opportunity to heal. It’s a bit like stopping the hands of time. You may have broken the habit of using the muscle, so you’ll be frowning less than before. This has a lasting improvement on the skin in that area. Some studies reveal that for the reasons mentioned above, it’s possible after several years to stop using Botulinum toxin for a year.

How long does a filler last?

Fillers treatments are durable. Depending on the kind of filler used, the results may last between 9 months and a year. After this, the effects will slowly diminish. The rate at which the effects wear off is different for everybody.

I've had fillers before. Is it potentially harmful if the physician uses a different filler?

There are many different fillers available on the market. At The Body Clinic we mainly work with temporary fillers based on hyaluronic acid. If you’ve had previous treatment with a temporary filler, find out exactly what this filler was so we can make a proper estimation of how our filler will react with yours. If you ever had permanent fillers, we advise you to avoid unnecessary risks and not have the same area treated again.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Most fillers are based on hyaluronic acid; a translucent gel produced naturally by the body. While Botulinum Toxin temporarily relaxes your muscles causing wrinkles and frown lines to dissipate, fillers on the other hand temporarily fill out lines, folds and wrinkles. At The Body Clinic, only top-shelf hyaluronic acid brands are considered, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Teosyal and Princess. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally occurring in the connective tissue, skin, nerve tissue and epithelia. This glucosic building block ensures that your skin remains supple and elastic. So far, tens of millions of procedures have been performed with the hyaluronic acids used in our filler injectables, proving their safety over the long term.

What is Botulinum Toxin, a.k.a. Botox?

Botulinum Toxin Type A (Botox) is a naturally occurring bacterial protein. When it is injected, it blocks neural impulses, causing your muscles to relax. This prevents your skin grooves from deepening further. Botox is one of the brand names for Botulinum Toxin. At The Body Clinic, we use Azzalure-brand Botox.

Is the procedure always performed by a physician?

All treatments at The Body Clinic are performed by experienced physicians. Our physicians are highly regarded at kliniekervaringen.nl and have over a decade of experience in injectable treatments.

I'm pregnant. Can I have fillers or botox?

In case of pregnancy or suspicion of pregnancy we do not perform treatments. There is no scientific evidence that fillers may harm an unborn child. However, there is also no evidence to the contrary. We’re not willing to take the risk.

niet.
