What does a PRF treatment entail?

PRF stands for Platelet-Rich Fibrin. We draw a small amount of blood from your arm. Nothing is added to it: the blood is centrifuged directly at low speed. This preserves not only the platelets but also white blood cells and fibrin. After injection, the fibrin forms a natural network in the skin, from which the growth factors are released over several days. This stimulates collagen production and the repair of skin and hair follicles.

The doctor discusses your wishes and draws up a personalised treatment plan. You are screened for contraindications such as bleeding disorders, active infections or certain medications to assess whether PRF is safe and suitable for you.

Preparation for the treatment

The doctor walks you through the treatment step by step and answers your questions. Your skin is cleansed and, if desired, a numbing cream is applied.

The treatment

We draw about 10-20 ml of blood from your arm. It is centrifuged at low speed without any additives. The liquid PRF is then drawn up sterilely and injected immediately, before it clots. The entire treatment takes 30-45 minutes.

Recovery at the clinic

After the treatment, you can cool the treated area if necessary and relax at the clinic. The doctor will discuss with you what you can and cannot do in the coming hours and days. You can resume your daily activities almost immediately.

Follow-up appointment

For optimal results, we recommend a course of 3 treatments with 4 weeks in between. You schedule the follow-up appointment at the clinic after your treatment.

Before and aftercare

Before the treatment

Stop taking supplements, vitamins and fish oil 5 days before the treatment. Do not use ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac or aspirin for one week beforehand (always discuss this with your doctor). Do not drink alcohol or smoke for 24-48 hours beforehand. Drink plenty of water on the day of treatment, as this makes the blood draw easier. Come with clean skin without make-up or, for a hair treatment, with a freshly washed scalp.

After the treatment

Avoid intense exercise, sauna, sunbeds and alcohol for the first 24 hours. Protect your skin with SPF30+. Wait at least 1 week before having beauty treatments or peels. After a scalp treatment, you can wash your hair with a mild shampoo the next day.

Recovery time

After the treatment, temporary redness, mild swelling, small bumps at the injection sites or bruising may occur. This usually disappears within a few days and may be covered with make-up. Contact the clinic if you have any concerns or complications.

Duration of the result

The result develops gradually. For skin rejuvenation, you will see an improvement in texture and radiance after 4-6 weeks. For hair growth, the first results become visible after 8-12 weeks. The effect usually lasts 6-12 months.

With PRP, an anticoagulant is added to the blood, and it is centrifuged at high speed. With PRF, this is done without additives and at low speed. As a result, PRF also contains fibrin and white blood cells, and the growth factors are released more gradually.
A PRF treatment can be slightly uncomfortable due to the injections. We can apply numbing cream beforehand. Most people find it well-tolerated, with a pain score of 3 out of 10.
Results develop gradually over 2-3 months and last for 6-12 months, depending on your personal situation. For lasting results, we recommend maintenance treatments.
