Calf reduction with Botox
Freezing your calf muscles with Botox
What does a calf reduction involve?
Many women or men suffer from large calves and some women have issues fitting into their boots. This can be quite bothersome, certainly as large calves occur even among skinny people. Some try to combat this with exercise, but the shape of our calves is genetically determined.
Large calves are not caused by fat deposits, but by disproportionately large calf muscles. Botox can offer a solution: not only is it useful for combating wrinkles, excessive sweating and teeth grinding, it also helps with calf reduction. Calf botox is already being hyped in America and Asia and now it’s starting to pop up in the Netherlands as well.

Why treat large calves with Botox?
Reducing calf size is usually not a question of exercise or diet. Botox offers an increasingly popular solution for reducing calf size, allowing you to reduce their size by up to two centimetres. Up until recently, this was only possible through invasive surgery. Botox offers a less invasive solution: by freezing your calf muscles with Botox, their surface area starts to decrease over time.
The treatment
Botox is injected into a number of points around your calf muscles, without requiring sedatives. It takes multiple treatments in order to decrease your calf size. You can enjoy the results for 3 to 6 months. In order to preserve the effects of your calf reduction, the procedure needs to be repeated once every three to six months. Just like with facial Botox, this procedure does not require surgery and bears little to no recovery time. The procedure itself only takes a few minutes. Cooling is not necessary.

It is vitally important that your Botox treatment is carried out at a qualified clinic. Our doctors at The Body Clinic will make sure to take all your wishes into account. By treating your calf muscles with Botox, you can reduce your calf size by up to two centimetres. This will deliver a natural appearing result.
Before and after treatment
Before we can begin a Botox calf reduction, the area of treatment will be disinfected and points of injection will be marked.
We advise against exercise following treatment, yoga included. Neither should you massage the treated area. This being said, we do recommend you flexing your calf muscles regularly.
In nearly all cases there is no sign that any treatment has taken place. Every now and then some patients experience a little skin redness, swelling or bruising.
The results of a Botox calf reduction will initially last between three to four months. By repeating the procedure, the effect will eventually increase to five to six months. Keep in mind that everyone’s body is unique and so are the duration of the results.

Safety
Botulinum toxin is an especially safe substance. Because Botulinum toxin is subject to pharmaceutical law, researchers have spent years studying its effectiveness, side effects and complications before it was allowed to be marketed. Botulinum toxin has now been used in the medical world for over forty years (in higher doses) in countless patients, among whom children and adults suffering from muscle spasms. No negative long-term effects have ever been reported about Botulinum toxin.
