Slimming your jawline with Botox
A V-line in the face is held as a sign of beauty. With a V line we refer t a facial contour that tapers from the cheekbones to the chin. Sometimes, however, the masseters on either side of the face are so muscular that the jawline appears too broad. Men and women often consider this a desirable feature in a man’s face. Women, however, usually consider it a lot less attractive in their own face.
A wide jawline is often genetically determined and frequently observed in people of Asian descent. If the highlight of your face is such a broad jawline, it is conceivable that your cheekbones are not reaching their full potential. The correct balance between cheekbones and jawline (jawline slimming) is essential for a soft appearance and a V-shape. With the use of a Botox treatment we can achieve the appearance of a slimmed-down jawline.
Why slim your jawline with Botox?
For a more visible V-line in the face, Botox can partially relax your masseter muscles. By reducing the size of these muscles, Botox slims the jawline. This in turn increases the visibility of the V-line in your face, making your face appear more youthful and slender, while emphasizing your cheekbones.
Slimming the jawline is a procedure most popular amongst people of Asian descent and those with wide mandibles. In addition, this procedure can relieve pain / teeth grinding (bruxism), which often results from an overload of pressure in highly developed masseters.
The procedure (jawline slimming) is carried out by one of our experienced doctors with the use of Botox injections, usually 3 injections per side. Slimming the jawline with Botox is a very gradual procedure, and results are often only visible after 8 weeks. The procedure must be repeated every 3-6 months in order to retain your jawline’s newfound slimness. However, it only takes two weeks before you should be able to feel whether the procedure effectively lifted pain symptoms and/or bruxism.
|Effect duration:||+/- 3-6 months|

Before and after the treatment
If this is your first visit to The Body Clinic, your health will be mapped out and you will give the doctor consent for a Botox jawline slimming procedure. On average, three injections will be made in each side to relax the masseters.
We recommend not to practice yoga or any other sport on the day of your Botox procedure. Furthermore, we ask you not to lie down during the first two hours after your treatment.
This Botox treatment does not come with any major side effects. In most cases, it constitutes a lunchtime treatment, and neither you nor your friends should be able to notice any signs of treatment. In very rare cases, some minor bruising could be visible, but this is the exception rather than the rule.
Once your masseters have undergone a Botox treatment, the end result will not be directly visible. This is because slimming the jawline with Botox is a gradual process. Results usually only appear after 8 weeks on average.
Prior to your Botox jawline slimming treatment, The Body Clinic offers a free and non-binding intake with one of our doctors. We will examine whether there are any medical objections regarding the treatment and the areas to be treated will be mapped out. Furthermore, you will receive our professional advice, tailored to your personal preferences whilst remaining within the realm of possibilities. After pictures have been taken and a treatment agreement and health declaration have been signed, you will have the option to be treated immediately.
The jawline slimming Botox treatment is an extremely safe procedure because Botox is covered by the Medicines Act. This means that years have been spent researching its effectiveness, side effects and possible complications. Only when the results are favourable the substance is allowed onto the market. The levels of Botox used in a jawline slimming procedure are very low, such that they cannot be harmful or toxic. No negative long-term effects of Botox have ever been reported.

How long until I see the effects of a Botox jaw slimming procedure?
This treatment is a gradual process. After 4-8 weeks you should be able to make out a difference. After 3-4 months, the Botox will have worn off, and your masseters will be able to increase in size and activity again. If you repeat the treatment, however, you can halt this and actually slim down the jawline even further.
How long does it take before my bruxism is reduced or the accompanying pain symptoms?ls gevolg daarvan?
It takes roughly 2 weeks for Botox to provide a noticeable reduction in muscle activity, thereby reducing the accompanying pain symptoms.
Does Botox, in slimming my jawline, also help tighten the jawline?
Slimming the jawline or tightening it is not quite the same thing, and the procedures differ too. Slimming the jawline concerns a Botox treatment because Botox relaxes part of the masseters, causing their overall size to decrease. Tightening the jawline, on the other hand, has more to do with counteracting volume loss and skin slackening, which allows the skin to be pulled down by gravity and hang around the jaw. To restore this, we have to recoup the volume and tighten the skin. This can be achieved by way of a filler treatment.
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure consists of 3 small Botox injections in the masseters. You will feel the pricks, but the pain is temporary. Anaesthesia is not necessary and not useful.
Will I be able to speak and chew normally after the procedure?
Yes, you will not have any problems with that. This treatment leaves the masseters, which are often overactive in these types of patients, partially relaxed, causing them to become less active. This, in turn, brings their size down. A Botox masseter procedure will not affect your ability to eat or talk.
What is the minimum age limit for a Botox jawline treatment?
If you are younger than 18 years old, it is not possible to undergo any cosmetic treatment in the Netherlands.
