Our physician Bart Biermans is now allowed to use the title Cosmetic Physician KNMG as of July 1, 2019. Congratulations! We are very pleased with this recognition by the KNMG. The physicians (certified members of the NVCG) will be included in the Cosmetic Medicine professional register of the KNMG (RGS).

Bussum, July 1, 2019 – As of today, ‘cosmetic medicine’ has been recognized as a medical profile, and the title ‘cosmetic physician KNMG’ is protected. This allows clients and patients to verify whether a cosmetic physician is genuinely trained for this. This is a significant milestone in the mission of the NVCG (Dutch Association of Cosmetic Medicine) to protect clients and patients from unqualified practitioners and to offer a protected qualification to demonstrably competent cosmetic physicians.
Fair Information, Not Misleading Only cosmetic physicians who are permitted to use the “KNMG” suffix meet the professional specialization in cosmetic medicine and are registered in the professional register of the KNMG (Royal Dutch Medical Association). Clients and patients can check this public register to see if their cosmetic physician is KNMG-certified. The NVCG states that physicians must always provide honest information to their patients and clients. The association considers it misleading if, after July 1, 2019, physicians present themselves as ‘cosmetic physician’ without the KNMG suffix while not being registered in the professional register. This constitutes misuse of title and misleads clients: only the “cosmetic physician KNMG” is demonstrably competent.
Ensuring Quality in the Cosmetic Industry Dr. Catharina Meijer, cosmetic physician and chair of the NVCG: “We are incredibly happy with and proud of this milestone. This process was initiated by the NVCG over seven years ago and supported by VWS (Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport). It is commendable that both the government and other professional groups recognize that this protection is an important step in safeguarding the quality of the industry. The qualification is of paramount importance to clients and patients; they can now finally find out which physician is allowed to call themselves a cosmetic physician.”
What Changes? Physicians must be authorized and competent. Competence is acquired by the physician through additional training in the medical specialty they practice. As of today, it is clear which physician is demonstrably competent and trained in cosmetic medicine.
