What is Radiesse?
The most common fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers. This is a natural substance found in the body itself and has a hydrating and collagen-stimulating effect on the skin. Fillers from the Radiesse brand contain calcium and phosphate ions. These are natural minerals also found in human teeth and bones. The injectable Radiesse is a white-colored gel and should be injected into the deep skin layer.
What is Radiesse suitable for?
Radiesse, like hyaluronic acid-based fillers, is suitable for filling wrinkles. But also for enhancing contours and restoring volume. Areas suitable for treatment with Radiesse include: the nasolabial folds, marionette lines, cheeks, cheekbones, temples, chin, jawline, and the deeper lines around the mouth. Radiesse is not used for the lips.
Is Radiesse a permanent filler?
Radiesse is often mistaken for a permanent filler. Radiesse is not permanent, but it does have a long-lasting effect. While hyaluronic acid-based fillers have an effect for approximately 12 months, Radiesse has an effect for 1.5 years. Radiesse not only acts as a filler but also provides a lasting effect by stimulating the body's own connective tissue formation.
Is Radiesse safe?
Radiesse consists of calcium and phosphate ions. Since these naturally occur in the human body, there is only a very small chance of foreign body reactions. Radiesse is therefore a safe wrinkle filler. It has been used for more than twenty years in other fields (orthopedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, and dentistry). In America, this injectable has been used for cosmetic corrections for over 15 years.
How long does Radiesse last?
Radiesse is absorbed by the body after approximately three months and is then converted into collagen, which is broken down by the body after about 18-24 months.
Before the treatment
As with any filler treatment, you must be present 30 minutes before your Radiesse appointment. The assistant will take photos of you so that we have a good record of the results when you return for your follow-up appointment. After the photos, you will need to complete a medical questionnaire and will be numbed with Emla cream. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, the treatment will begin. Of course, the doctor will first discuss your wishes and the possibilities to fulfill them. The filler is injected into the skin via a needle.
After the treatment
After the treatment, the treated area may be somewhat swollen. Some red or blue spots may also appear. We advise you to cool the treated areas at our clinic after the treatment. We will provide you with ice packs.
