Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal leads to a long-lasting reduction in hair growth. Hairs largely disappear and return less quickly. If new hair growth occurs, it is often finer and lighter in color. Maintenance treatments are recommended to preserve the result.

Laser hair removal is safe when performed with professional equipment and by experienced practitioners. Medical lasers are designed to target the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin. A prior skin analysis ensures a safe laser setting.

Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for four weeks before the treatment. Do not use self-tanner or products with acids or scrubs in the days prior. Shave the area one day in advance and come to your appointment with clean, product-free skin.

Laser hair removal is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. This is due to hormonal changes and the lack of sufficient research into its safety during this period. It is advisable to temporarily postpone treatments.

Laser hair removal works best on dark hair on light skin. For darker skin types, specific laser technologies are used that work deeper and are safe for more pigment in the skin. Light, grey, or red hairs respond less effectively because they contain little pigment.

Laser hair removal uses focused light beams that work deeper and more effectively than IPL. The Body Clinic's systems, such as the Quanta Thunder (Alexandrite and Nd:YAG) and LightSheer diode laser, accurately target the hair follicle.

IPL disperses light superficially, with less energy, making it less powerful and less suitable for long-term results. Lasers are more effective for stubborn hair growth, require fewer sessions, and are safer for various skin types.

Shaving is permitted and even recommended. Methods that remove the hair root, such as waxing or epilating, disrupt the effect of the laser. For effective treatment, a hair must be present in the hair root.

A full course usually consists of six to ten treatments. The exact number depends on factors such as hair color, hair thickness, skin type, and the body area. Not all hairs are in the correct growth phase to be treated at the same time, which makes repetition necessary.

During the treatment, you may experience a sharp, warm sensation, comparable to the snap of a rubber band. Most clients find this well-tolerated. Many systems have a cooling function, which increases comfort during the treatment. On a scale of 0-10, the pain is on average rated with a 6.

The skin may temporarily feel red or warm after the treatment. This reaction usually subsides within a few hours to days. In rare cases, slight swelling, pigmentation differences, or scabs may occur. Good pre- and post-treatment care significantly reduces the chance of side effects, such as ensuring the skin is not tanned.

You often notice a decrease in hair growth after just one or two treatments. After multiple sessions, the results become more clearly visible. Your skin will feel smoother, and you will need to shave less often.
