What is a HIFU treatment?
HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound. It is a non-surgical treatment that lifts and tightens the skin from within. HIFU uses concentrated ultrasonic waves that penetrate deep into the SMAS layer, where cosmetic surgeons also operate during a facelift. The energy creates local heat and triggers collagen production and the strengthening of fibers.

The skin is thoroughly cleansed to remove dirt and any make-up residue. Subsequently, a cooling gel is applied to the area to be treated.
The ultrasound head is moved over the skin in the areas to be treated. You will feel short, warm pulses deep in the skin; this is a sign that collagen production is being stimulated. The session typically lasts 30 to 90 minutes.
If desired, you can rest quietly for a while before resuming your daily activities. The skin therapist will discuss what you can and cannot do in the coming hours and days, so you know how best to care for the treated area.

HIFU is suitable for men and women aged approximately 30 years and older who want to address early signs of skin laxity, such as a less defined jawline, jowls, a looser neck, or slight sagging around the eyebrows. It is a good option for people who do not (yet) want a surgical facelift, but desire a subtle, natural improvement. HIFU is less effective for very loose skin or for clients with a lot of excess skin.
Yes, HIFU can be combined with other treatments for optimal results. This should be discussed thoroughly with your skin therapist. During the consultation, discuss your wishes and the possibilities for combination treatments.
Although HIFU is a safe and effective treatment, there are a few points to consider. During energy delivery, the treatment can cause a warm or tingling sensation, which some people find uncomfortable. The final result is only fully visible after 3-6 months, which requires patience. HIFU is less suitable for very loose or excess skin – in such cases, a surgical procedure might be more effective. The result is subtle and natural, not a dramatic transformation.
