Our doctor Leonie de Noo in conversation with Maaike van Furrow.nl about the three biggest myths about Botox.
It's time to separate fact from fiction: Botox won't kill you, your face won't collapse if you stop using Botox, and 'Botox lips' have nothing to do with Botox. The 3 biggest myths about Botox debunked.
Botox prevents you from moving your face
Botox is often associated with an expressionless face. Cosmetic doctor Leonie de Noo: "Only if you treat all zones in your face with Botox and also use the full dosage, can it happen that you can no longer raise your eyebrows or move your forehead."And that can indeed lead to an expressionless face. "Especially in combination with too many fillers, it does indeed look rather unnatural."
But that doesn't mean you can't move your face after every Botox treatment: "Caring for your skin and, if necessary, improving your skin condition is essential. Healthy skin usually needs less Botox. This way, you ensure a very natural result, and you can still move your face after the Botox treatment."

Botox fills wrinkles
Unlike fillers, Botox does not fill wrinkles but addresses the cause of the wrinkle. "You use Botox for the treatment of dynamic wrinkles, i.e., wrinkles that arise from movement, such as frown lines, crow's feet, or forehead wrinkles." How you actually reduce a wrinkle (filling or not) depends on the cause. "Wrinkles that arise from volume loss and/or reduction of collagen and elastin are filled with a hyaluronic acid filler, but Botox is not involved in this treatment."
Botox causes large lips
The dreaded 'duck face' is often associated with Botox, but it is precisely fillers that create the plumped-up lips."It's a persistent misconception that the duck face is caused by Botox."Botox does not add volume; instead, it ensures that the muscles causing the wrinkles are less able to contract. "And furthermore, given the risk of potential complications, you want to avoid Botox as much as possible around your mouth."
It is therefore fillers that are responsible for the duck face. "Too many fillers or an incorrect injection technique (or a combination) can indeed lead to a plumped-up effect on your lips. But here too, it has nothing to do with Botox."

Bart Biermans is a cosmetic doctor and founder of The Body Clinic. After studying medicine at Utrecht University, he started one clinic in Amsterdam, which under his leadership has grown into a leading organization with multiple locations in the Netherlands and Germany. With over 20 years of experience in injectables, Bart has developed a clear vision on natural aesthetics, balance, and harmony. Although Bart now only sporadically treats patients, he plays an important role in coaching the doctors within The Body Clinic. He transfers his years of experience by guiding doctors in the same refined working method he developed himself: subtle improvements that suit a person's face, without it being visible that a treatment has taken place. Bart encourages his team to work with small, thoughtful adjustments and to prefer a refined follow-up rather than doing too much at once. In this way, he safeguards natural aesthetics and the preservation of facial expressions as core values within the entire organization. In addition, as director, Bart is closely involved in medical quality, strategic choices, and the further growth of The Body Clinic. His vision on meticulousness, natural results, and realistic aesthetics continues to form the basis of how the clinic operates and grows to this day.
