A traditional Botox treatment remains effective for about 4 months, after which the muscle can move again and wrinkles reappear. Daxxify allows muscles to relax for 6 months, not 4. With the introduction of Daxxify, a major competitor is therefore lurking. The question is: Will Daxxify be the new Botox?
Botox might be getting hot under the collar
Daxxify (DaxibotulinumtoxinA-lanm) was developed by pharmaceutical company Revance. The ingredients of Daxxify are almost identical to those of Botox. Both Botox and Daxxify originate from the core component of Botulinum type A. Botox uses two additional proteins for stabilization, while Daxxify uses a peptide.
In addition to a 1.5 times longer effect, Daxxify also works faster. While it takes Botox seven days to become fully effective, Daxxify only takes two days. It's quite possible that Botox will start to feel the heat.
Uncertainties about Daxxify
We are already very familiar with Botox, but despite Daxxify being very similar, there are still many uncertainties about Daxxify, such as: the price, the side effects, and what effect this new product will have on the frequency of clinic visits.
Botox won't disappear overnight
Botox won't disappear overnight, but Daxxify does have good chances of eventually taking over. It's possible that Daxxify will enter the market as its own brand, but it's also conceivable that the name Botox will remain, but Daxxify will be used. Time will tell.
Daxxify at The Body Clinic
As of writing, Daxxify is not yet available in the Netherlands. We will, of course, inform you when we start offering Daxxify at our clinic.
What is Botox?
We are almost all familiar with the anti-wrinkle treatment Botox. There are multiple brands of Botox on the market. Botox is officially a brand name for the naturally derived protein Botulinum Toxin. At The Body Clinic, we use the A-brand Azzalure. By using Botox, the 'contraction signal' between the nerves and the small muscles in the skin is blocked. This prevents the small muscles in the skin from contracting (fully). Botox is injected into the skin and is virtually painless.
