What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is an injectable, body-identical substance naturally found in your skin. It regulates moisture and forms a cushion in and under the skin. As you age, the amount of hyaluronic acid decreases, leading to reduced volume and drier skin. A hyaluronic acid filler replenishes this and also improves the condition of your skin.

Hyaluronzuur behandeling: snelle en pijnloze injecties met kosteloze touch-up bij The Body Clinic

What does a hyaluronic acid treatment entail?

During a hyaluronic acid treatment, the filler is injected into the skin via small injections using a thin cannula or needle. The treatment takes approximately 15 minutes and is not painful, as the fillers contain lidocaine. If necessary, a complimentary touch-up can be performed after the treatment.

Applications of hyaluronic acid

A hyaluronic acid treatment offers many possibilities and can be applied to various areas of the face. This includes the temples, the nasolabial folds, the cheeks and cheekbones, and the area under the eyes (also known as the tear trough). In addition, hyaluronic acid is suitable for nose corrections, the area around the mouth, the lips, the jawline, the chin, and frown lines.

Before the treatment
Stop taking blood thinners (aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen) and supplements 5 days before the treatment – consult your doctor if necessary. Do not drink alcohol for 48 hours before the treatment. Optional: start Arnica drops 5 days before the treatment.

After the treatment
Do not apply make-up for the first few hours after the filler treatment. For the first week after treatment, avoid direct sunlight, solariums, and saunas, and use SPF30+. Wait 2 weeks before having beauty treatments in the treated area.

Recovery time
In the first few days, you may experience swelling and bruising. This swelling usually disappears within a few days. Bruises can be camouflaged with make-up after a few hours. Most people can return to work the next day. Plan for few social obligations during the first 3-4 days.
none provided
Duration of results
You will see immediate results after the treatment. The final effect is visible after 3-5 days, and we evaluate the result after 2 weeks. The filler typically lasts for 12 months. How long the final result lasts varies per person, as your body breaks down the hyaluronic acid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Find direct answers to questions about treatments, costs, and recovery.

  • Permanent fillers consist of substances that do not naturally occur in the body and are not broken down. This increases the risk of complications such as infections, hard lumps, and capsule formation. These problems can occur immediately or only years later. With aging or weight fluctuations, the injected substance can become visible as bumps. With temporary hyaluronic acid fillers, such complications are virtually non-existent, and should they occur, the filler can be easily dissolved.

  • Before the treatment, everything will be calmly discussed with you. Nothing will happen that you don't want. After completing the treatment agreement and health declaration and taking photos, the area to be treated will be covered with an anesthetic cream. The doctor then applies the filler with small injections into or under the skin, using a thin cannula or a small needle.

  • The treatment itself takes an average of 15 minutes. We ask you to arrive at least 30 minutes before the treatment so that we can apply the numbing cream.

  • A hyaluronic acid treatment is generally not considered painful. You might feel a slight prick, but this is very brief. Our fillers contain lidocaine, a substance that temporarily numbs the tissue locally.

  • An allergic reaction can manifest as a red, swollen, and somewhat painful spot. In mild cases, this is a normal reaction that subsides after a few days. If it worsens or doesn't feel normal, please contact us. A hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase, causing the symptoms to disappear within a few days.

  • Depending on the filler used, the results typically last for approximately 9 to 12 months. After this period, the effect gradually diminishes. This can vary from person to person.

  • If, contrary to expectations, you are not satisfied, we will jointly explore the options. Sometimes, with a little extra filler, we can achieve the desired result. In rare cases, some filler may need to be dissolved. If you wish to reverse the treatment, we can dissolve the hyaluronic acid effortlessly and without residual effects using hyaluronidase. We always ensure you receive a natural result that harmonizes with your face.

  • No, we do not perform treatments if you are (potentially) pregnant. It has not been proven that fillers are harmful to the baby, but the opposite has also not been proven. We do not take this risk.

  • There are many different types of fillers on the market. We primarily work with hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Have you been treated with a different temporary filler before? Please try to find out exactly which product you were treated with, so we can assess if the fillers might react with each other. If permanent fillers have ever been used, we advise against treating the same area again.

  • Yes, a filler treatment with hyaluronic acid is safe. The brands we use have been on the market for a long time, and their safety has been proven in the long term. All hyaluronic acid can be actively dissolved, which offers extra assurance. Furthermore, hyaluronic acids are bioactive substances with a skin-improving effect that provide natural hydration.
