Botox is known to most people as a means to relax muscles, thereby eliminating wrinkles. Nowadays, Botox is also used for medical reasons such as migraines and teeth grinding. What many people don't know is that this wonder drug also has a positive effect on sweating. This is also known as the Botoxdry treatment.
Excessive perspiration
Sweating is a very normal phenomenon; we all do it to maintain our body temperature. However, some people sweat much more than normal. Excessive sweating is also called 'hyperhidrosis' and can occur in various places. Excessive perspiration under the armpits is the best-known area, but palms, soles of the feet, and the gluteal cleft also occur regularly. Constantly wet patches, unpleasant odors, or sweaty hands and/or soles of the feet can significantly affect your daily life. People experiencing these complaints have often tried numerous remedies to stop sweating, often without success. Think of wearing double t-shirts so that sweat patches are less likely to appear, every type of deodorant, or blocking sweat glands resulting in itching and irritation.
What does Botox do against sweating?
In the medical world, Botox is actually called Botulinum Toxin; Botox is just a brand name. There are several other brands: Azzalure, Dysport, and Bocouture. At The Body Clinic, we use the A-brand Azzalure. Botulinum Toxin has the property of being able to block the nerve, preventing a muscle or sweat gland from being stimulated. In the case of excessive sweating, the nerve that makes you sweat is temporarily blocked, resulting in dry armpits, palms, and/or soles of the feet.
How an anti-perspiration treatment with Botox works
The anti-perspiration treatment with Botox is also called a 'lunch treatment' because you are usually back out within 15-20 minutes. The doctor discusses your problem and then marks points per armpit with a pencil. This way, the doctor can precisely see which area needs to be treated. 15-20 injections of Botox are given per armpit. At The Body Clinic, we use ultra-thin needles, making the treatment less painful. It is often the Botox itself that can sting a bit after injection. We mix the Botox with a special solvent to make the treatment even more comfortable.
Before the anti-perspiration treatment
- Come with clean-washed armpits, hands, or feet.
- Ensure armpits are hair-free so the doctor can place the injections in the correct spot.
- The anti-perspiration treatment of the palms and soles of the feet is very sensitive. We therefore ask you to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment so that you can be covered with an anesthetic cream.
After the anti-perspiration treatment
- The skin is often somewhat sensitive, red, and swollen after the treatment. This is completely normal and subsides after a few hours.
- After the treatment, you can resume your daily activities.
- For the first 24 hours after the treatment, we advise you not to undertake activities that cause heavy sweating. This is to achieve an optimal effect and to avoid irritation of the armpits or any other treated area.
- Do not take hot showers for up to 24 hours after the treatment.
- Do not use deodorant for up to 24 hours after the treatment.
Risks of an anti-perspiration treatment with Botox
Botox is a safe and registered medicine. There is a minimal chance of side effects. If you have any questions after the treatment, our doctors are always available to assist you.
Results of an anti-perspiration treatment
An anti-perspiration treatment with Botox typically works for about 4 months the first time. By consistently repeating the treatment, the effect can last longer. In some cases, after multiple treatments, you only need to be treated again after 6-9 months.

I work carefully and safely, listen carefully to what you want and what you don't want, and give honest advice – even if something turns out not to be necessary. Not every wrinkle needs to be treated. Not every area needs extra volume. My role is to advise what *does* work and what is better left undone. Because 'less is more' is not just a nice saying – it is the core of my working method. Through my many years of experience, both as a practitioner and as an educator, I know exactly how to make subtle improvements that suit your natural face. It's not about nobody seeing that you've had a treatment – it's about everyone seeing how good you look," says Nicoline. **Experience & specializations** - Cosmetic Doctor KNMG since 2015 - 30,000+ Botox and filler treatments - Former educator of cosmetic doctors - Registered in the Profile Register Cosmetic Medicine - Member of the Dutch Association for Cosmetic Medicine (NVCG) - Internationally trained and up-to-date with the latest techniques
