Safety eyelid correction
Both a surgical upper eyelid correction and a non-surgical eyelid correction with PlexR are extremely safe and relatively simple procedures. Every surgery carries a risk; however, the risks associated with eyelid correction are minimal. During a no-obligation consultation, the doctor will discuss all side effects and risks with you, so you can make an informed decision.

Naturally, you must be over 18 years old for any cosmetic treatment. Once you meet this requirement, our doctor, during an assessment, will not focus on your age but rather on whether a filler treatment is a suitable solution for you. This depends, for instance, on the depth of the under-eye hollow. After discussing all the pros and cons, the doctor will make a well-informed decision with you about whether to proceed with the treatment.
Eyelid correction is primarily a cosmetic procedure and is therefore, in most cases, not reimbursed by health insurance. Only in exceptional cases can eyelid correction be performed based on a medical indication. An important criterion here is that when looking straight ahead, the upper eyelid fold substantially covers a part of the pupil of the eye. If your eye correction has a medical indication, the treatment will be reimbursed by the basic insurance, and it does not matter what supplementary insurance you have. You must arrange this yourself with your insurance company; we do not participate in insured care.
This treatment is performed by our specialized doctors Mirthe van der Putten, Hugo Ammerlaan and Marleen Ghijsens, who have many years of experience with this procedure. These doctors have extensive experience with upper eyelid corrections and strive for natural, long-lasting results.
After upper eyelid correction, you should not wear eye make-up. No make-up should get into the wounds on your eyelid. You can apply eye make-up again after 2 weeks. On the day of the operation, please do not wear any (eye) make-up.
After upper eyelid correction, you cannot immediately wear contact lenses again. To insert your lenses, you have to touch your eyelid. This can negatively affect recovery. Therefore, we advise you to wear glasses for 10 to 14 days after the procedure.
An anesthetic cream is applied before the treatment for extra comfort. Most clients find the treatment quite tolerable. On a scale of 0-10, the pain is rated with an average of 4. The pain experience can vary per person.
Within a few weeks, the results of the PhilArt Eyes treatment become visible. Skin improvement can last 4 to 6 months, depending on individual factors such as skin type and age. Because PhilArt Eyes is a regenerative treatment, the results develop gradually.
Depending on the cause of the eye bags and the type of bags you have developed, there are several options. It is important to distinguish between bags caused by swelling/fluid retention and bags caused by dark circles/thinner skin. A combination of both is also possible.
Bags due to fluid retention:
- Sufficient sleep can help if fluid retention is caused by lack of sleep
- Eating less salt can help if puffiness has occurred due to excessive salt intake
- Drink enough water - it sounds contradictory, but a well-hydrated body is less prone to retaining fluid
- Allergies are known to cause swollen eyes. Try to investigate if you might have an allergy, for example, to pollen or pets
- Cooling the skin can visibly reduce puffiness
Bags due to thinner skin:
- The collagen level in our skin decreases by 1% each year. The collagen balance can be influenced by collagen supplements in combination with vitamin C
- Moisturizing creams can keep the delicate skin under the eyes supple. This will make fine lines less visible
- If your eye bags do not retain excessive fluid and there isn't too much loose skin under your eyes, a treatment with hyaluronic acid fillers can provide a solution
- For loose skin under the eyes that cannot be minimized with fillers, a lower eyelid correction with PlexR is an option. PlexR is a non-invasive method that creates tiny burns on the skin fold, smoothing it out
- If there is a lot of loose skin and PlexR cannot provide a solution, then surgical lower eyelid correction is a last alternative
Tip: Always use sunscreen. The skin under the eyes is very thin and therefore very susceptible to pigment and skin aging due to sun damage.
PhilArt Eyes stimulates fibroblasts in the skin, and as these become more active, they in turn stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. This can help reduce puffiness and drooping eyelids. The polynucleotides also promote cell regeneration, making fine lines, wrinkles, and dark circles less visible. What's special is that PhilArt Eyes does not add extra volume and is the only injectable that can be placed so close to the eyes.
