Hair on the back is difficult for many men to maintain. Shaving or waxing is hard to do yourself in that area, and the results are only visible for a short time, often leading to irritation or ingrown hairs. With permanent laser hair removal, you can reduce hair growth on your back for the long term. You can choose for the half or full back; a large area like the back is treated in one session.
At The Body Clinic, we use the Quanta System Thunder laser. This laser combines two wavelengths: the Alexandrite laser works superficially and precisely, and is suitable for light skin with dark hair. The Nd:YAG laser penetrates deeper into the skin and is suitable for darker skin or deeper hair roots. Both wavelengths can also be used together. During the consultation, the skin therapist determines which setting is appropriate for your skin type and hair color.
The skin therapist assesses your skin and the hair on your back and determines which laser setting suits your skin type and hair color. You also discuss whether you want to treat the half or full back.
Shave your back one day in advance. If you can't do it yourself, the skin therapist will shave the area just before the treatment. The skin is cleansed to ensure optimal laser performance.
A cooling gel is applied or the skin is cooled with an air cooling system. The handpiece emits concentrated light to the hair follicles. The duration depends on the size of the area.
If desired, you can rest for a while. The skin therapist discusses with you what you can and cannot do with the treated skin in the coming hours and days.
Multiple sessions are needed for lasting results. The number varies per person. Your skin therapist will schedule your follow-up appointments.

We believe it's important that you are well-informed before getting your back lasered. Therefore, you always start with a free consultation, where the skin therapist assesses your skin and hair and together with you draws up a treatment plan. After the consultation, you can be treated immediately.
Usually, 6 to 10 treatments are needed. The exact number depends on your hair color, hair thickness, and skin type. Not all hairs are simultaneously in the growth phase where the laser can reach them, which is why repetition is necessary. There is an interval between back treatments. Afterwards, maintenance treatments are recommended.
You need multiple treatments before the result is permanent, and occasionally a maintenance treatment. Around the treatments, you should avoid sun and tanning beds. Light, grey, or red hairs respond less well because they contain little pigment. Immediately after the treatment, your skin may temporarily be red or feel warm.
A half back treatment costs €140, and a full back treatment costs €210. The initial consultation is free. As multiple treatments are usually needed, the skin therapist will discuss what you can expect during the consultation. View the price list for all zones.
You'll feel a sharp, warm sensation, similar to a rubber band snapping against your skin. Most patients find this quite tolerable. During the treatment, the skin is cooled with gel or cold air. On a scale of 0 to 10, the pain is generally rated as a 6.
Your skin might temporarily be red or feel warm; this usually subsides within a few hours to days. In rare cases, slight swelling, pigment differences, or scabs may occur. Proper pre- and post-care, such as skin that is not tanned, reduces this risk.
Laser hair removal works best on dark hair on light skin. With the Quanta System Thunder, we can also safely treat dark skin: the Nd:YAG laser works deeper and is suitable for skin with more pigment. During the consultation, the skin therapist assesses your skin and hair and chooses the correct setting.
