Drs. Shannon Jong Pian Ki obtained her medical degree from Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. At the age of 18, she moved from Suriname to the Netherlands to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. This step required perseverance, adaptability, and handling challenges—qualities that have shaped her both personally and professionally.
During her studies, she gained additional experience in dermatology and plastic surgery, where she was also involved in scientific research. After graduation, she further specialized in cosmetic medicine, where she currently works as a cosmetic physician. Her passion for health and sustainable lifestyle changes also led her to the field of medical weight loss, where she works as a medical weight loss doctor. With care, empathy, and expertise, she guides patients in a way that suits their personal situation and goals.
Approach
Shannon approaches health from a broad and personal perspective, focusing not just on weight, but on the person as a whole. She believes that sustainable results arise when attention is paid to all factors influencing health, such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, stress, and emotional well-being. From her medical background, she has learned to look beyond just visible complaints. With an empathetic, personal, and committed approach, she works with her patients to find a treatment that aligns with their personal situation, needs, and goals.
Shannon believes that good care starts with truly listening. Everyone has their own story, background, and challenges, which is precisely why she believes there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to health and weight loss. She takes the time to explore with her patients what is needed to achieve changes that are not only effective but also fit an individual's life and possibilities.
Her own life story plays an important role in this. At the age of 18, she moved from Suriname to the Netherlands to pursue her dreams. Building a new life in another country brought challenges and required perseverance, discipline, and adaptability. These experiences have shaped her and enable her to empathize well with people who encounter obstacles on their path to better health.
In addition to her work as a physician, Shannon has always been active in sports, particularly international tennis. This has allowed her to experience firsthand the importance of listening to your body and finding a healthy balance between effort and recovery. For her, health is not about perfection, but about making choices that contribute to long-term well-being and health.
