At The Body Clinic, we closely follow the latest developments in obesity care. Our chief physician, Nicolette Lammers, represents The Body Clinic on a national advisory board for a new medication: orforglipron. We asked her what this could mean for you as a patient.

What is orforglipron?

Orforglipron is a new medication for weight management, and what makes it special: it's a tablet. Not an injection, but a pill you simply take. The medicine falls into the same category as well-known agents like Ozempic and Wegovy, but has several properties that might make it a better choice for certain people.

Why is Nicolette on the advisory board?

For the introduction of orforglipron, the pharmaceutical company assembled a national advisory board of physicians with experience in obesity care. Nicolette, as chief physician of The Body Clinic, was invited to share her knowledge and practical experience. "The goal is to advise the pharmaceutical company on what we, as practitioners, consider important," Nicolette explains. "Think of questions like: to whom would you prescribe this drug, and why? What needs do patients have? What truly makes a medication workable in daily practice?"

It's great to see that the experiential knowledge of our doctors contributes in this way to better care, not only for our own patients but for people throughout the Netherlands.

Who is orforglipron suitable for?

Orforglipron, as a tablet, is slightly different from injections, and this difference makes it very appealing for a specific group of people.

Orforglipron can be a good choice if you:

  • Have a fear of needles — no more injections, just take a tablet
  • Travel frequently — the medication does not need to be refrigerated, so you can take it anywhere, anytime
  • Prefer to build up gradually — the tablet makes it easy to start and increase the dose gradually
  • Also want to reduce usage in the long term — orforglipron is also well-suited for tapering off when appropriate
  • Have difficulty with other slimming tablets — unlike some other pills, you don't need to take orforglipron on an empty stomach; you can simply take it after eating

Honest about effectiveness

At The Body Clinic, we are always transparent about what a treatment can and cannot do. Orforglipron is not more effective than injections — the injectable variants generally lead to stronger weight loss. But for people who, for whatever reason, do not want or cannot use injections, orforglipron offers a serious and good alternative. Moreover, it is cheaper than most injections, making it more accessible to more people.

When will it be available?

Orforglipron is expected to be available in the Netherlands by late 2026 or early 2027. We are closely monitoring developments and will inform you in due course as soon as we know more.
