Don’t just get treated with fillers at a beauty salon!

The health authority reported today, Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, that certain operations in beauty salons must be performed by a physician. It involves the use of the mesogun and hyaluronic pens, devices to fill in wrinkles and or lips. Earlier, a treatment with the mesogun at a beautician was under fire in a Radar broadcast. The health board’s ruling shows that client safety is paramount and only someone competent should perform filler treatment.

So reports the ANP:

“Health Institute RIVM has reviewed the operation of these devices. Based on the research results, the inspectorate considers treatments with a mesogun or a hyaluronic pen, like other devices with similar technology, to be the making of an injection. This makes it a “reserved act” under existing legislation, meaning it may only be performed by a doctor, as is the case with fillers and botox.

The law lists acts that can only be performed by registered health care providers. Devices are not listed. “The first types of hyaluronic pen and mesogun injected the liquid superficially. But in the meantime, there are also devices of this type that penetrate deeper into the skin. As a result, there was also discussion in the field about the use of these devices,” the inspectorate explains. The organization is now speaking out explicitly about these treatment methods for the first time.”
