Rader gives behind-the-scenes look
Anyone interested in fillers was given a big wake-up call after Rader’ s 15-11-2021 broadcast. The message reads, “Never have fillers injected by an aesthetician(s).” Even if the price is so attractive.
A filler injection should only be performed by a physician. A doctor has good knowledge of anatomy and can provide appropriate aftercare, unlike, say, a beautician(s). Therefore, during a filler treatment, from consultation to aftercare, make sure you are helped by a doctor. So don’t be swayed by price; after all, it’s your face and the damage can be immense.
Fillers are popular
The number of filler treatments has skyrocketed in recent years, especially among young people. The growth seems to have come from social media in which the beauty image has become far from reality due to filters and photoshop. Young women in particular allow themselves to be manipulated by this unreal ideal of beauty and turn to filler treatments. These treatments are quite pricey so a search for inexpensive fillers arises. To our great surprise, people still end up in the chair at a beautician’s office for a filler treatment instead of a beauty treatment. How is this possible?
Can a beautician inject fillers?
An aesthetician is not anatomically and medically trained and therefore is not legally allowed to inject fillers. Thus, the performance of this treatment is reserved only for a physician. To get around this, one can use a “Mesogun,” a device that is fully or partially automated. The dosage and action can be set with the Mesogun, this officially makes the action no longer manual. During the Radar broadcast, it can be seen how the pen is disconnected then injected manually. There are several crucial blood vessels running in the face that a beautician is not trained to work with. Also, an injection can cause complications; a doctor knows about this, a beautician does not.
One-day filler course
Doctors have spent years studying and gaining experience to be competent enough to practice their profession. A one-day “mesogun” filler course cannot compete with this. The providers of these courses try to push the edge of what is just right and just not allowed; it is a gray area. However, absolutely no thought is given to the consequences and aftercare involved in this “mesogun” filler technique. It is not for nothing that the BIG law was created by the government in 2019, this law ensures that only doctors are allowed to perform cosmetic procedures.
Complications from fillers
As filler treatments increase, so do complications. Doctor Tom Decates, the complication doctor when it comes to cosmetic procedures, is concerned about this. Every week he sees patients where a blood vessel is clogged due to improper injection of fillers. This can cause tissue to die and can cause lifelong discomfort. There are risks to cosmetic treatment, however, this risk is many times greater if you have your three high back treated by a beautician who has done a one-day filler course for it.
Always have a Botox or filler treatment performed by a physician
With the popularity of Botox and filler treatments, we are inundated with new cosmetic clinics and price offers. Our advice is to always choose a BIG registered doctor who is also a member of the NVCG (Dutch Society of Cosmetic Medicine). You may pay a little more for filler treatment at a doctor’s office, but then you can be sure that you have someone in front of you who is experienced and knowledgeable enough to perform the treatment. Choose a cosmetic clinic where you will be helped by a doctor during the consultation, treatment and aftercare. Injecting fillers is a precise craft with risks involved. By choosing a doctor instead of a beautician, you reduce the chances of complications. Then, should a complication occur, the doctor is knowledgeable enough to be able to resolve it.
