We currently have works hanging in our clinic in Amsterdam by artist Alisa Lim A Po.

Alisa Lim A Po has been painting all her life. However, for several years now she has devoted herself entirely to fine art and keeps studio in Schiphol-Rijk. She has exhibited in recent years at various associations, galleries and at major fairs such as the LXRY Fair and the Affordable Art Fair in A’dam.

Oeuvre
Lim A Po has been working on a body of work carried by experiences from her own life as an adult woman since 2012. She mirrors these personal experiences to the universal social behavior and position of women. Her emotionally charged paintings reference themes of honesty, superficiality, trust, loneliness and love. In her work, Lim A Po sketches a stage in which the reality of these themes confronts. Personal, yet universal. Subtle, yet direct. Detailed, yet evocative. Fully, yet insulated. Recognizable, yet at a distance. It is a confrontation of the senses achieved through this. It touches the heart, stimulates the mind and entices looking.

Style
Lim A Po’s work can be characterized as limited realism. Elements of recognizable reality are depicted realistically to a greater or lesser degree. However, Lim A Po’s work features contrasts, coarse details and voids that skim realism. In doing so, her work zooms in on the core and eliminates irrelevant background information. Leaving out the superfluous details creates a certain abstraction. Isolating gives room for focus and everyone’s own interpretation. As such, the work can be understood in many different ways, or mirror one’s own existence and experience. According to Lim A Po, room for one’s own interpretation is important. Every human life has its own story and therefore its own frame of reference. When Lim A Po manages to find other people’s stories with her story – the intended intersection – a natural process of interaction occurs.

Technology
Her works are diverse in technique and material. Although she paints primarily with acrylic paint, she continuously varies its application. Quick strokes, coarse blobs, rough elements, tight full areas and many transparent layering. She paints on linen, paper, aluminum and recently on yellow copper. In her work, Lim A Po seeks the balance between formal principles and technical possibilities. To a greater or lesser extent, the material determines the form of the imagination and the technique she employs. And with this, gets its own role in the work. According to Lim A Po, the right balance of material and image enhances the representation and vividness of the work.
