Disadvantages fillers

The results of filler treatment are very beautiful and visible immediately after treatment, but let’s face it…there are drawbacks to fillers as well. However annoying, but fortunately the disadvantages are temporary and even the hyaluronic acid can be dissolved.

Bart Biermans, cosmetic doctor and owner of The Body Clinic, talks with Maaike Dorsteen of Furrow.nl about disadvantages of fillers.

You’ll walk out of the clinic without any wrinkles or puffiness, with any luck you’ll have almost no swelling after the treatment, and on top of that, the restoration of volume loss will also make you look years younger. But yes, of course, it can’t just be fun. In fact, there are also disadvantages to fillers. Cosmetic physician Bart Biermans: “It is important, however, to distinguish between the disadvantages of the filler and the prickly side effects that come with this treatment. Once you work with a needle, you run the risk of swelling because tissue and cells are damaged during treatment.”

Bruising

For example, the risk of bruising with filler treatment is especially high. “The areas in which a filler is used are relatively prone to bruising. Around your mouth and under your eyes there are many blood vessels and because of this, these are the places where bruising easily occurs.”

“Bruising is hard to prevent, but usually you are presentable to the outside world within a few days. “

Bumps

One of the most dreaded disadvantages of fillers is that you will face complications such as allergic reaction or bumps after this treatment. “Especially with hyaluronic acid fillers that have been injected too superficially, there is a possibility that you may feel them sitting for several days or that bumps may appear, but usually this is temporary.”

No matter how annoying, but the solution is often a few days of patience. “Usually the bumps disappear within two weeks of treatment and chances are you won’t feel them anymore.”

Unnatural result

Too much is never good, and that includes fillers: “Too many fillers can give an unnatural result. Rather, it is important to firm the skin to restore volume loss. If you use more fillers then it quickly becomes unnatural.”

In the unlikely event that you did use too many fillers, you can always consider dissolving them again.Hyaluronic acid fillers can be actively dissolved with Hyason if necessary. Depending on which brand was used, this dissolves the fillers within a few hours to a few days.”

Temporary effect

Despite all the negative stories about permanent fillers, the temporary effect is also sometimes seen as one of the disadvantages of fillers. “Exactly how long it takes for the hyaluronic acid filler to break down depends on where you use the fillers, the brand and also somewhat person-dependent. Generally speaking, it is the case that after 6 to 9 months you will have to be re-treated.”
