How to make a natural lip

Are you curious about lip fillers but afraid of the so-called “duck face”? At our clinic, our goal is always to create as natural a lip as possible with lip fillers. A natural-looking lip has to do with facial shape, the amount of fillers and exactly where the lip filler is injected, among other things. Creating a natural lip listens closely and is precision work. I therefore recommend that you have this treatment performed by an experienced and knowledgeable physician. In this article, I explain about this.

Lips are the focal point of the face

Everyone is unique when it comes to lips. Did you know that humans are the only animal species that have externally turned and therefore highly visible lips? Even the great ape has inwardly turned lips. When we look at someone, the first attention goes to the eyes and then to the lips. Our lips are therefore a real eye-catcher. Lip fillers for a feminine, youthful and sensual look

Because our lips are turned outward, they are very visible. Women generally possess more pronounced lips than men. Full lips were found to be a characteristic of feminine facial appearance in the study by by Perret and colleagues 1998 [1]. Fuller lips provide a youthful and sensual look in addition to a feminine appearance. Therefore, it is not surprising that lip fillers are a very popular treatment at our clinic.

The face shape as a starting point for lip fillers

The only question now is how much should the lips be plumped up to achieve the desired, but certainly natural result. Your face shape plays a big role in this. As a cosmetic doctor, I look at the proportions of your face to determine how much lip filling can be done to create a natural lip that fits your face. Lips should ideally have a certain proportion. The upper lip should be just slightly smaller that the lower lip. I always recommend initially filling the lips to exact proportion. After all, the lips must continue to match the face.

A natural lip

Lip filling with lip fillers can be done in several ways. If you want a natural result then in most cases I recommend minimal filling of the lip edge. In fact, an oversized lip edge can produce a “duck face. Highlighting the lip red slightly enlarges the lips as a whole, resulting in a natural lip. In addition, in most cases, I recommend using no more than 1ml of filler during a treatment.

What exactly is a filler?

Your lips are filled with a filler, which is a translucent body gel based on hyaluronic acid. This is a substance that already occurs in our bodies, this substance decreases in quantity as we age. With fillers you can fill something up, this can be wrinkles but you can also use fillers to add volume like in the lips.

Lip volume decreases with aging

As we age, the amount of hyaluronic acid in our body decreases. This is also evident in the lips. Our lips become narrower, fainter in color, and the border between the lips and the adjacent skin blurs. Filling the lips in this situation will make you look youthful again.
