Skin aging…what happens to your face as you age?

Bone loss
During the aging process, bone is absorbed, facial bones become thinner and more brittle. This makes your face look narrower, which leads to less tight-looking jaw and cheekbones.

Fat loss
The face loses padding from subcutaneous fat, elasticity/collagen decreases and the volume sinks from the cheeks and eyelids under the influence of gravity. Collagen is a connective tissue that provides firmness and elasticity to the skin. At a young age, our bodies produce enough collagen to keep the skin firm and supple. After age 25, however, collagen production decreases. As the skin slackens and external effects have a greater effect on it, the first wrinkles slowly appear. In addition, the production of the protein elastin also decreases.

Volume loss
The distribution of subcutaneous volume can be corrected without surgery, using injectables. This can also effectively address wrinkles. The most common agents used to treat wrinkles are botulinum toxin (Botox) and hyaluronic acid (a.o.Restylane®). Botox relaxes the underlying facial muscles, while hyaluronic acid plumps up the skin. A perfect way to restore volume loss in the face is a liquid facelift treatment.
