If you suffer from excessive perspiration and are confronted with this extra on hot summer days, it can be very annoying. Botox is known to most people as a means of relaxing muscles, which makes wrinkles disappear. Nowadays, Botox is also used for medical reasons such as migraines and teeth grinding. What many people don’t know is that this wonder drug also has a positive effect on sweating. This is also known as the Botoxdry treatment.

Excessive sweating

Sweating is a very normal phenomenon; we all do this to maintain our body temperature. However, some people sweat much more than usual. Excessive sweating is also called “hyperhidrosis” and can occur in a variety of places. Excessive sweating under the armpits is the best known area, but the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and buttocks are also common.
Continuous wet spots, nasty odors or sweaty hands and/or soles of feet can affect your daily life considerably. People who experience these symptoms have often tried numerous remedies to stop sweating, often without success. Think about wearing double t-shirts so the sweat patches are less likely to emerge, any kind of deodorant or shutting off the sweat glands resulting in itching and irritation.

What does Botox do for sweating?

In the medical world, Botox is actually called Botulinum Toxin, Botox is just a brand name. There are a number of other brands like this: Azzalure, Dysport and Bocouture. At The Body Clinic, we use A-brand Azzalure. Botulinum Toxin’s property is that it can block the nerve, preventing a muscle or sweat gland from being controlled. In the case of excessive sweating, the nerve that makes you sweat is temporarily blocked resulting in dry armpits, palms and/or soles of the feet.

How does an anti-perspiration treatment with Botox work?

The anti-perspiration treatment with Botox is also called a lunch treatment treatment because you are usually out again within 15-20 min. The doctor will discuss your problem and then start making dots for each armpit with a pencil. This way, the doctor can see exactly which area needs to be treated. Per armpit, 15-20 punctures are made with Botox. At The Body Clinic, we use ultra thin needles making the treatment less painful. It is often the Botox itself that can sting a bit after injection. We mix the Botox with a special solvent which makes the treatment even more comfortable.

For the anti-perspiration treatment

  • Come with cleanly washed armpits, hands or feet
  • Make sure the armpits are hair free so the doctor can place the injections in the right place.
  • Anti-perspiration treatment of the palms and soles of the feet is very sensitive. We therefore ask you to be present 30 min before your appointment so that you can be rubbed with anesthetic cream.

After the anti-perspiration treatment

  • The skin is often somewhat sensitive, red and swollen after treatment. This is quite normal and subsides after a few hours.
  • After treatment, you can resume your daily activities.
  • For the first 24 hours after treatment, we recommend that you do not engage in any activities that involve heavy sweating. This is to achieve optimal effect and avoid irritation of the armpits or any other area.
  • Do not shower hot for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Do not use deodorant for 24 hours after treatment.

Risks of anti-perspiration treatment with Botox

Botox is a safe and registered drug. There is minimal risk of side effects. Should you still have questions after treatment, our doctors are always available to help you.
