As of July 1, 2019, the cosmetic physician KNMG profile recognition will be a reality!
Our physician Bart Biermans may hold the title Cosmetic Physician KNMG as of July 1, 2019. Congratulations! We are very pleased with this recognition by the KNMG. The doctors (certified members of the NVCG) will be included in the KNMG’s profile register of Cosmetic Medicine (RGS).
So the title cosmetic doctor is protected from now on, this way the quality and safety of cosmetic medicine can continue to be guaranteed.
Bussum, July 1, 2019 – As of today, “cosmetic medicine” is recognized as a medical profile and the title “cosmetic physician KNMG” is protected. This allows clients and patients to verify that a cosmetic doctor is actually trained to do so. This is a tremendous milestone in the mission of the NVCG (Dutch Society of Cosmetic Medicine) to protect clients and patients from incompetent practitioners and to provide a protected qualification to those demonstrably competent cosmetic physicians.
Honest information, otherwise deception
Only cosmetic physicians who may also use the suffix “KNMG” meet the profile specialty of cosmetic medicine and are registered in the profile register of the KNMG (Royal Dutch Society for the Advancement of Medicine). Clients and patients can see if their cosmetic doctor is KNMG-certified in this public registry. The NVCG argues that physicians should provide honest information to their patients and clients at all times. The association finds it misleading if doctors pretend to be “cosmetic doctors” without the addition KNMG after July 1, 2019, while they are not enrolled in the profile register. This is title abuse and puts clients on the wrong track: only the “cosmetic physician KNMG” is demonstrably competent.
Securing quality cosmetic industry
Dr. Catharina Meijer, cosmetic physician and president of the NVCG: “We are extremely pleased with and proud of this milestone. This process was initiated over seven years ago by the NVCG and supported by VWS (Ministry of Health, Welfare & Sport). It is commendable that both the government and other professional groups recognize that this protection is an important step in assuring the quality of the industry. The qualification is in the highest interest of clients and patients, they can now finally find out which doctor can call himself a cosmetic doctor.”
What will change?
Physicians must be both qualified and competent. Proficiency is acquired by physicians through additional training in the medical specialty they practice. As of today, it is clear which physician is demonstrably competent and trained in cosmetic medicine.
