As a physician, I am often asked by my clients if sunlight can make fillers dissolve faster. It’s a common question, especially in the summer when everyone is out in the sun more often. The answer is no, the sun cannot make a filler dissolve faster. However, it is important to stay out of the sun for a few days after a filler treatment. We explain why.

The sun does not dissolve a filler faster

Sun exposure does not dissolve fillers faster. Fillers are injected under the skin to blur wrinkles and fine lines. Sun rays do not go deep enough into the skin to dissolve filler particles. Popular fillers such as from Restylane are composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally occurring in the body. The results of hyaluronic acid filler treatment are often immediate.

The body is designed to maintain body temperature

In the warmth of the sun, our bodies do not suddenly become very hot. Our bodies are designed to maintain our body temperature. So it is not that the filler “melts” due to the heat of the sun. Being in the cold also has no effect on fillers since even then our body temperature is maintained.

After a filler treatment, stay out of the sun for a few days

Give the skin time to recover after a filler treatment. Healing is faster and better when you stay out of the sun. In addition, bruising may occur after filler treatment; this bruise may become a pigment spot. Pigmentation is difficult to treat, which is why I recommend staying out of the sun until the skin has fully recovered.

Wear factor 50 in the summer

Sun exposure accelerates the skin aging process and is one of the main causes of wrinkles. The filler gives your skin a boost and combats the aging process. So it is counterproductive to sit in the sun in full afterwards. If you do go out in the sun I recommend using factor 50. If you would like a nice color in the summer, I recommend using self-tanner. give the skin time to recover after filler treatment. Healing is faster and better when you stay out of the sun. In short, fillers do not dissolve faster in the sun since they are placed deeper into the skin. However, it is highly advisable to allow the skin to fully recover after a filler treatment to prevent inflammation and pigmentation.
