Are you considering Botox treatment to smooth wrinkles and make your skin look young and fresh? What many people don’t know is that Botox treatment against certain facial wrinkles can cause “unwanted” wrinkles to appear in other areas. This is not always perceived as annoying, but many people are unaware of it. Botox treatment of the multiple areas can create “bunny lines. These so-called “bunny lines” are not always caused by Botox; some people have them naturally. In this blog, we will tell you more about how to get “bunny lines” and how to treat them.

What is a Botox treatment?

Botox is a popular cosmetic treatment used to reduce facial wrinkles and fine lines. It works by temporarily relaxing the facial muscles, making it an effective way to reduce wrinkles. As with any cosmetic procedure, side effects can occur. A “side effect” of Botox that people may not be aware of is “bunny lines.

How do you get ‘bunny lines’?

The causative agent of “bunny lines” is the overactive musculus nasalis. This nasal muscle causes folds in the skin at the top of the nose. Heredity may be a factor causing the muscle to work much harder than usual, making bunny lines noticeable at a young age. Furthermore, with age, the skin loses its elasticity and wrinkles may appear on the bridge of the nose and along the sides of the nose. But “bunny lines” can also be caused by Botox treatment of crow’s feet, for example. Relaxing one area causes other muscles, in this case the musculus nasalis, to work harder, creating folds next to the bridge of the nose. The word rabbit lines literally comes from rabbits, as they pull up their noses which causes lines.

How can you prevent or treat ‘bunny lines’?

By injecting specific amounts of Botox into the “bunny lines,” these can be prevented. Should you treat several areas regularly with Botox and are bothered by the “bunny lines” that have appeared then it is an idea to include the “bunny lines” in the treatment next time preventively. This will prevent permanent wrinkles from forming next to the bridge of the nose.
