One doctor swears by it, while another says it is total nonsense: moving your face after botox. Cosmetic physician at The Body Clinic: “To ensure that the botulinum toxin is absorbed faster, the advice is to actively tighten your muscles several times after treatment.”

Frown, wink or look puzzled. “The type of movement depends on the treatment. Frown at your frown line, wink in the case of crow’s feet and look surprised when you’ve just had your forehead wrinkles treated with botox.”

Faster results

Just because the botox is absorbed faster by moving your face does not mean you will see results sooner. “It still takes 2 to 14 days before you have any effect from the treatment. The exercise you do only reduces the risk of complications.”

This is because if the botox is absorbed faster, it cannot spread as easily. “Until the botox is absorbed, it could possibly spread to another muscle group. But even if you don’t tighten your muscles after treatment, the chances of that happening are still minimal.”

“There are even studies showing that botox that is not absorbed within 4 hours is broken down by your body and rendered ineffective.

Looking surprised

So there is really no need to walk around with a puzzled head constantly after the treatment. “You can also overdo it. You certainly don’t have to very actively tighten your muscles in your face. That will only give you a headache. It’s more a matter of frowning very deliberately a few times just after the treatment.”

So do actively move your face, but keep other athletic activities to a minimum. Monique: “Running, cycling, body pump and also, just to be safe, don’t stand on your head, to avoid any risk of spreading the botox.”
