Are fillers even safe?

Complications after semipermanent fillers at RTL NEWS
There has been a lot of talk lately about the risks of fillers and their long-term effects. The September 28, 2018 broadcast of RTL news talks about semi-permanent fillers. At The Body Clinic, we do NOT use semi-permanent fillers, but temporary hyaluronic acid-based fillers that have been on the market for quite some time.

The problem RTL points out is the lack of strict regulations in the admission of fillers to the Dutch market. After the introduction of a new (hyaluronic acid) filler on the market, complications can sometimes occur as with a permanent filler, hence the term semi-permanent filler.

The Body Clinic does not use semi-permanent fillers
To avoid this risk, The Body Clinic uses hyaluronic acid fillers that have been on the market for more than 20 years and tens of millions of treatments have been performed. Their safety and long-term effects have been extensively mapped out, so you, the client, will not face any surprises. We use Restylane, Radiesse and Princess fillers. These fillers not only have a CE mark, but also FDA approval. The U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has very strict rules before giving a filler this seal of approval. Finally, all of the hyaluronic acids we use at The Body Clinic can be actively dissolved by Hyason (Hyaluronidase) if needed.

Experienced doctors
Of course, the safety of cosmetic treatment starts with a safe filler, but treatment by an experienced BIG-registered doctor is obviously just as important. All doctors at The Body Clinic are BIG-registered, receive annual training and are members of the NVCG (Dutch Society of Cosmetic Medicine). There are strict requirements attached to this membership. In order to remain a member of the NVCG, our doctors undergo regular training and visitation. The doctors at The Body Clinic have varying 5 to 15 years of experience in cosmetic treatments. The Body Clinic meets all hygiene requirements and is continuously monitored by the NVCG. We are certified that we comply with infection prevention regulations and laws.

Saypha
The Croma (Saypha) brand was founded in Vienna in 1976 by pharmacist couple Karin and Gerhard Prinz. Initially, Croma focused on a nationwide network for the registration, import and distribution of products and drugs not yet registered in Austria. Its purpose was to further develop products and make them more accessible to patients in Austria. In the 1990s, Croma was certified as one of the first drug manufacturers in Austria. More than 40 million injectables were produced in the two decades that followed, and the Saypha filler is in the final stages for FDA approval.

Radiesse

Radiesse is a filler from the company Merz Aesthetics. Radiesse® consists of biocompatible substances that have been used in the medical world for over 20 years, 12 of which have been in the form of facial fillers. It is not necessary to have an allergy test prior to treatment because Radiesse® microspheres are made up of the body’s own substances. More than 6 million Radiesse brand fillers have been used for aesthetic treatments worldwide.
Clinical studies over many years have shown that Radiesse® has a very reliable safety profile , is effective and is excellently tolerated. Radiesse® is FDA approved for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds and has the CE mark for plastic and reconstructive surgery. After the injection, patients may experience redness, discoloration or swelling. Most side effects of the treatment disappear after a few days. Side effects that rarely occur include swelling that lasts longer, unevenness or stiffness of the injected area and, as with any injection, there is a risk of infection. Given the large number of injections used and the fact that the drug has been on the market for so long, you need not fear any adverse long-term effects of this filler.

Choose consciously
So choose consciously and choose a BIG registered good doctor with a lot of experience. In an intake consultation, always be well informed about which brand of filler is being injected and ask how long this filler has been on the market. At The Body Clinic, we prefer hyaluronic acid fillers because they can also be actively dissolved if there is a complication.
