What is Radiesse?

The most common fillers are hyaluronic acid-based fillers. This is a natural substance found in the body itself that has a moisturizing and collagen stimulating effect on the skin. Radiesse brand fillers contain calcium and phosphate ions. These are natural minerals that are also found in teeth and bones of the human body. The injectable Radiesse is a gel, is white in color and must be injected into the deep layer of skin.

What is Radiesse suitable for?

Radiesse, like a hyaluronic acid-based filler, is suitable for filling wrinkles. But also to beautify contours and create volume restoration. Areas suitable for treatment with Radiesse are: the nose-lip fold, mouth corner line, cheeks, cheekbones, temples, chin, jaw line and the somewhat deeper lines around the mouth. Radiesse is not used for the lips.

Is Radiesse a permanent filler?

Radiesse is often confused with a permanent filler. Radiesse is not permanent, but it does have a long-term effect. Whereas hyaluronic acid-based fillers have an effect for about 12 months, Radiesse has an effect for 1.5 years. Radiesse not only acts as a filler, but also provides a lasting effect through the stimulation of one’s own connective tissue formation.

Is Radiesse safe?

Radiesse consists of calcium and phosphate ions. Since this occurs naturally in the human body, there is only a very small chance of foreign body reactions. Radiesse is thus a safe wrinkle filler. It has been used in other fields (orthopedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and dentistry) for more than 20 years. In America, this injectable has been used for cosmetic corrections for more than 15 years.

How long does Radiesse last?

Radiesse is absorbed into the body after about three months and is then converted into collagen which is broken down by the body after about 18 – 24 months.

Before treatment

As with any filler treatment, a Radiesse treatment requires you to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment. The assistant will take pictures of you so we will have a clear picture of the results when you come back for the checkup appointment. After the photos, you will be required to fill out a medical questionnaire and you will be numbed with Emla cream.

After the numbing ointment has set in, the treatment starts. Of course, the doctor will first discuss your wishes and the options for fulfilling them. The filler is injected into the skin through a needle.

After treatment

After treatment, the area to be treated may be somewhat swollen. Some red or blue spots may also appear. We recommend cooling the treated areas after treatment at our clinic. We provide you with ice packs.
