Botox, how exactly does it work?

danielle miggelenbrink nederstigt manager bodyclinc

If you are interested in treatment with botox, it is wise to know what botox is and exactly what it does prior to treatment. This will give you a good idea of whether botox is right for you at all. For example, you may be bothered by a very distinctive facial expression or wrinkles on the face that you want to soften. How botox works or whether it is the appropriate treatment for you we explain in more detail.

What is botox?

There are several brands of botox on the market. Botox is officially a brand name for the naturally derived protein Botulinum toxin. At The Body Clinic, we use the A-brand Azzalure. Using botox blocks the “tightening signal” between the nerves and muscles in the skin. This prevents the muscles in the skin from contracting (fully). Botox is injected into the skin and is virtually painless.

What areas is botox suitable for?

Frown, forehead and crow’s feet are often treated with botox at The Body Clinic. For example, you may be bothered by wrinkles around your eyes, also called crow’s feet. Treatment with botox can cause these wrinkle lines to relax, leading to a fresher look. By continuing to repeat the botox treatment, these lines never have a chance to get worse. The frown is also an extremely suitable area for a botox treatment. You can soften your appearance a bit. You may look angry but you are not. Botox can give you a friendlier expression. If the wrinkle is already very deep in the skin then a combination of a filler and botox may be the way to go. By using a filler, the wrinkle is filled. The botox ensures that no further adjustment of the muscle is possible. Likewise, botox can be used forexcessive sweating, migraines and gritting teeth.

Interested in a botox treatment?

You can book a free, no-obligation consultation at our clinic in Amsterdam, Utrecht or Duiven to discuss your needs with a doctor. The doctor will then determine if botox is right for you. Before you enter the room with the doctor, you will fill out a medical questionnaire so that we are aware of your health. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding you cannot be treated with botox at that time.

If your health permits botox treatment then the assistant will take photos of you, these are explicitly for your records, to record the before after result. Two weeks after treatment, you will come back for a checkup appointment, then the before and after photos will be reviewed with you.

When will you see results from a Botox treatment?

The results of botox can be seen about 1-2 weeks after treatment. You should be patient for a while after you are treated. After the first botox treatment, we recommend coming back after 2-3 months to repeat the treatment. The interval becomes longer if you have had multiple treatments, we recommend scheduling 4-6 months between each treatment.

How long does a botox treatment last?

A botox treatment takes about 15 minutes. You can return to your daily activities almost immediately because almost nothing of the treatment is visible. We also call this the lunch break treatment, you are done in no time and you see virtually nothing. Cooling is not necessary.
