You are looking for the right treatment to combat natural aging. Whether to go for fillers or botox is common question. You can get both treatments at The Body Clinic in Duiven and in Amsterdam. After you have had a comprehensive consultation with one of our expert doctors, they can advise which treatment is best for you and your needs.

Do you opt for a filler or botox?

There is often confusion when people talk about fillers and botox. Both agents may be injected in a cosmetic clinic, yet they are two completely different products with different effects. The stimulus transmission from the nerves to the muscles is blocked with botox, therefore the functioning of the muscles decreases or stops. Fillers, on the other hand, actually fill a wrinkle and/or add volume to the face; a filler does nothing to a muscle.

In cosmetic medicine, it is important to distinguish between wrinkles created by facial expression or wrinkles/folds created by decrease in volume. Often in the first case, botox is used to treat the wrinkles. Therefore, if you get there early, there can be no wrinkle. Should the wrinkle already be there, it cannot get worse. Consider forehead wrinkles, the frown or crow’s feet. If you are more interested in volume restoration then treatment with fillers is appropriate. Think more volume in the lips. Treating lips with botox is not appropriate since you actually want more volume.

What is botox?

Botox is actually the brand name for the protein Botulinum toxin, this often brings confusion. There are several brands on the market in the Netherlands that use Botulinum toxin, this substance is a protein obtained from nature. We, at The Body Clinic, use the A-brand Azzalure from the company Galderma. Using Botulinum toxin (botox) temporarily relaxes muscles, causing wrinkles, lines and frowns, for example, to go away. Below is an overview of what facial botox can be used for.

What is a filler?

The name filler can also cause confusion, as it is quite a broad term. The word filler is often used in conjunction with the word hyaluronic acid. When fillers came on the market, these were permanent fillers. These fillers had a base of silicone. Today, we use temporary fillers based on hyaluronic acid, a translucent body substance. Permanent fillers are banned in the Netherlands. With temporary fillers, you can temporarily fill a wrinkle, crease (for example, nose-lip crease) or furrow, while botox actually temporarily relaxes the muscles. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are available from several brands. We use the fillers from Restylane, Saypha (Croma), Teosyal. Each filler also varies in thickness. Each area requires a different type of filler, though all are hyaluronic acid-based. For each area, the doctor will determine which filler is appropriate. Volume restoration is also possible with fillers, think of lip filling, liquid facelift, cheek filling. Below are areas of the face for which filler treatment might be appropriate.

Combination of fillers and botox

We are all getting older and, as a result, face volume loss. Unfortunately, this process cannot be stopped. However, there are solutions for making this process slower without any surgery. We always recommend that you come in for a consultation first to discuss your needs with the doctor. Perhaps you think fillers are appropriate, but the doctor thinks botox or a combination.
