What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body itself that has a hydrating and collagen boosting effect on the skin. With natural aging, the amount of hyaluronic acid and thus volume in the skin decreases. How quickly this occurs depends on lifestyle, wear and tear of the skin and heredity, among other factors. The doctors at The Body Clinic use hyaluronic acid fillers. These are the most reliable and safest fillers to combat the aging process. In addition to that, hyaluronic acid-based fillers are also used in younger people who are just missing volume in a certain area of the face. Treatment with fillers is the solution to address this. Our doctors guarantee a natural result by taking into account your facial contours and treating according to the principle of “less is more.

What are hyaluronic acid fillers?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are suitable for creating volume and filling superficial and deeper wrinkles in the skin. There are several brands of hyaluronic acid on the market. At The Body Clinic, we use the following brands: Restylane, Saypha and Teosyal. These A-brands have been on the market for a long time and tens of millions of treatments have been performed with them, whose safety has now been proven.

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers not only add volume, they also improve the skin. Increased hydration and collagen formation will make your skin more radiant. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be applied to multiple areas of the face. Hyaluronic acid in the lips, Lipfillers, are perhaps the best known. By injecting hyaluronic acid fillers into the lips, you can enlarge and firm the lips. However, there are many other areas where fillers can be injected such as the temples, nasolabial fold, cheeks, cheekbones, under the eyes, nose, area around the mouth, jawline, chin and earlobes.

What is a liquid facelift with hyaluronic acid?

We also offer what is known as a “liquid facelift. Without surgery and the associated anesthesia and scarring, we attempt to give your face a facelift through the application of hyaluronic acid-based fillers. Your face is completely refreshed, so to speak, and facial contours are improved. You will see a strong improvement in your skin: it becomes tighter, more radiant and appears many years younger. You don’t have to worry about getting a “bloated” or “new” face. Depending on the volume loss and aging of the skin, we choose a facelift light or intense.

Before the hyaluronic acid treatment

Prior to a filler treatment, photos of the area to be treated are taken and then it is numbed with a cream. The doctor at The Body Clinic will work with you to discuss your needs and analyze your options to achieve the desired results. What you have in mind is not always possible or is not always the best solution. Therefore, it is very important that you always have a consultation with one of our experienced doctors prior to treatment.

Opinion

Before the filler treatment, we recommend taking 1x 10mg of Cetrizine against swelling. To counteract bruising, we recommend taking Arnica drops from 5 days before to two days after the treatment. If you normally take dietary supplements, vitamins and/or fish oil, we recommend that you stop taking these 5 days before the treatment. Alcohol has no positive impact on treatment. Therefore, it is important not to consume alcohol 48 hours before treatment. Finally, we recommend that you do not take blood-thinning medications such as Aspirin, Naproxen and Ibuprofen before treatment (use paracetamol if necessary). The latter if necessary in consultation with your physician.

After treatment with hyaluronic acid

After treatment, the affected area may be somewhat swollen, red and/or blue. In our clinic you can cool immediately, we recommend keeping this up for 10-15 minutes. We do not recommend exercising after treatment, or applying makeup. Avoid contact with injected skin and avoid sunlight on the treated area in the first week. Use at least SPF 30. We also recommend that you avoid using a tanning bed and avoid facial treatments such as peels, lasers or microdermabrasion for at least two weeks. Give your skin time to recover. Two weeks after treatment, you are expected back for a checkup. Should you be completely satisfied this is not necessary. If you have any doubts about the result, you are of course welcome to discuss it with our doctor.

The result of a hyaluronic acid treatment

The result can be seen immediately after the treatment. The final result is there after two weeks. It depends on the person how long a filler actually lasts. Some people break down hyaluronic acid faster than others. Therefore, it is difficult to say exactly how long a filler will maintain the desired results. On average, this is 9-12 months.

Safety of hyaluronic acid

One perhaps reassuring feeling is that hyaluronic acid-based fillers can be dissolved, if necessary. So the fillers we use at The Body Clinic are not permanent! The chance of a foreign-body reaction is quite small, as hyaluronic acid is a substance of the body. If a complication does occur or you are dissatisfied with the result, you may choose to dissolve the fillers in consultation with the doctor. This is often done in stages to ensure that the filler is completely dissolved.
