What are wrinkles?

Wrinkles, everyone gets them, some more than others, however. Some take them for granted; others would like to do something about them. A wrinkle is a fold in the skin that develops as we age. Wrinkles can be caused by vivid mimicry or a decrease in volume. This is because the aging process causes a decrease in collagen, elastin and moisture. Wrinkles that appear in the upper part of the face, such as the forehead, frown and the so-called crow’s feet are often caused by mimicry. Volume loss often occurs in areas such as the temples, cheekbones, cheeks, nasolabial fold and corner of the mouth. People may also suffer from the wrinkles under their eyes. Depending on the cause of the wrinkle formation, treatment with a filler or with Botox (Botulinum toxin) is chosen.

Treating wrinkles with botox or fillers

At The Body Clinic, we treat wrinkles using botox and fillers or a combination. Fillers and botox are often confused with each other. They are both injected in a cosmetic clinic, but they are two completely different products, each with different effects. While Botulinum toxin (botox) temporarily relaxes muscles, causing wrinkles, lines and frowns to go away, a filler actually temporarily fills in a furrow, crease or wrinkle.

Wrinkle treatment

For proper treatment, it is important to distinguish between wrinkles created by facial expression or wrinkles/folds created by decrease in volume. In the first case, Botox is used to treat the wrinkles. Botox is a naturally derived protein used to temporarily relax muscles. The Body Clinic uses the brand Azzalure. This is administered through injections. For a liquid facelift treatment, we use hyaluronic acid-based fillers.

The following areas can be treated for beautiful and natural results:

Botox

Botulinum toxin blocks the stimulus transmission from the nerves to the muscles, reducing or halting their function. Consider the frown, for example. Frown lines are caused by the contraction of the muscles between the eyebrows. Continuous frowning creates a line between the eyebrows. By treating the frown with Botox, the muscles can no longer contract. As a result, you are unable to frown much, if at all. Therefore, this prevents a wrinkle from forming or prevents the wrinkle that is already there from getting deeper. This also applies to forehead wrinkles or wrinkles around the eyes(crow’s feet).

Wrinkle removal

If wrinkles in your face are caused by loss of volume, then hyaluronic acid fillers offer the best solution against your wrinkles. Fillers are suitable for creating volume and filling superficial and deeper wrinkles in the skin. In the past, permanent fillers such as silicone were used. For example, these fillers fill a wrinkle or add volume to a particular area. However, permanent fillers cannot be corrected and therefore cannot be dissolved. Unfortunately, very many complications arose from permanent fillers, such as inflammation, foreign body reactions and, for example, deformed faces permanent fillers are now banned in the Netherlands.

Reduce wrinkles

Nowadays, temporary fillers are used. These fillers are developed based on hyaluronic acid, a translucent body gel. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body itself that has a hydrating and collagen boosting effect on the skin. With natural aging, the amount of hyaluronic acid and thus volume in the skin decreases. How quickly this occurs depends on lifestyle, wear and tear and heredity, among other factors.

Hyaluronic Acid

At The Body Clinic, we only work with A-brands of hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane, Teosyal or Saypha. Tens of millions of treatments have already been performed with these hyaluronic acids and their long-term safety has also been proven. With natural aging, the amount of hyaluronic acid and thus volume in the skin decreases. Hyaluronic acid-based fillers are the solution to remove wrinkles and restore volume.

Filler or botox?

Of course, it is also possible to use a combination of botox and fillers to achieve optimal effect in fighting wrinkles. Finally, you can treat upper eyelids, lower eyelids, wrinkles above the lip and in the neck with a Plexr treatment. Plexr heats the skin, causing it to contract and prompting cell renewal and collagen production. So you will not only get an elevator in the treated area, but also a skin improvement! We also offer Restylane Skinbooster and Profhilo at our clinic in Amsterdam and Duiven. These products encourage your skin to improve. Nothing is actually filled, but your skin is given a boost and put to work reducing wrinkles.
